The January 2024 "Will we actually sign a striker or just Che Adams/Kieffer Moore" Transfer Thread

But as we've discussed in the past you genuinely hate him, so you're not really in a position to give a balanced review.
You can ask the rest of TWF if you like if they think he's been a good signing, as you're suggesting.

Pretty sure I know what answer you'll get.

That used to be Nuno's philosophy too, and it made sense.

It's not O'Neil's philosophy.

O'Neil is very flexible tactically. He just clearly doesn't like forwards who can't either press or fall back into shape quick enough.

Sasa tried hard and he probably understood what was being asked of him but unfortunately as a 6"7 man with the pace of a particularly slow glacier he just couldn't do it.

Well that's the rub, isn't it? Just expecting that players who are actually good enough for this level will meet all the requirements on the business side, too... It's not as simple as just whanging on the door of a club until they agree.

I just get the sense that we tend to reduce transfer dealings to much simpler terms than is the reality.
No it's not the rub at all mate, and your previous comment just makes me shake my head as its so far from how I think things work, I know it's not simplistic, but you are being really patronising.

There are literally thousands of footballers, we have several full time scouting staff, it seems that once again they can't identify either a short term solution that is financially feasible, or a longer term solution that we could mould for the rest of the season to become useful for next season.

Why arent we showing a bit of imagination? It doesn't have to be a fortune does it?

I'd need the answer to 2 questions.
What are we paying him? and what are you offering instead?
If it's relatively cheap and nothing then I'd rather have him around than not, but purely as a backup RWB

Well, we're not exactly in dire need of anything, in my opinion. Seems the club feel the same.

You see loads of clubs delaying the hit to the current FFP cycle by loaning with an obligation as well. There are ways we can be creative financially and sign players in this window.

1) Too much
2) I don't think he's brilliant, but Aina has been better for Forest than Doherty has been for us, he was also free, that's one example out of many potential options

Marçal played games for us, he wasn't a good signing. He was also better than Doherty.

He's been a better signing than I expected him to be, I didn't expect him to be keeping Bueno out of the team on merit, and he has. I didn't expect him to play in 15 of our 21 league games.

As soon as RAN is back (hopefully sunday) he'll go back to being Semedo back up.

It doesn't matter what the rest of TWF think either, I'm fine with being in the minority, also i'm sure there are a few who desist from suggesting he might have played ok, as they know they'll get an onslaught.

Ah yes, my famous propaganda campaigns :D

Next up, EP tells us why Steve Corica wasn't that bad if you think about it.

Jeff's gaslit people to such an extent that they believe wanting to have a squad that's a bit bigger than 4 into 3 at the the back, and 4 into 3 for the front three, is some sort of decadent extravagance.

It's mad. And look at GON; this job's done wonders for his profile, and to all viewers he's done a very good job - he'll have his suitors soon enough, and we've not really given him much to go on in terms of ambition. Yeah he took the gig in August under the instruction of working in tight conditions - but the business done in the Summer means that those conditions shouldn't be there anymore. If we don't actually allow him to build a competitive squad in the Summer, why would he decline other opportunities? The money we brought in and shaved off the wagebill in the Summer was INSANE, and now we're telling him "yeah I know we let you be confident you'd get players, but it's not happening, but we'll be OK in the Summer" as if we haven't got any experience of what happens when you lie to a manager

The club felt we didn't need a back up to Raul other than Fabio the year he cracked his skull too.
Shi then, Hobbs now. I think we have a better pair of eyes watching things at the mo.

Yep, it's like Brexit, 20 years of the Daily Mail telling us almost every day that the EU is evil, some of it seeps in eventually.

Shit scared of Deutsch me. Always loved Seyi Olofinjana just never expressed it so he didn't slag me off.
It's not fear, obviously.

But it can be tiring, obviously I like a healthy discussion (!), but there have been times over the years where I've been reluctant to say something positive about a player that I know TWF doesn't like as it'll lead to a :ROFLMAO: from Johnny or a 90s or Dave Edwards analogy as to why I'm wrong from Dan.

That's the reality.

I recall a few being worried about Lage upping sticks to go elsewhere! I'm delighted with the job GON is doing but I don't think he's in much danger of being headhunted just yet. You only have to look down the Premier League table and think to yourself that there won't be many, if any clubs, who would take him on who are better funded or in a position that we are.

The ‘options they were looking at were not doable financially’, doesn’t mean to say that there could be other options that are doable financially, or am I being naive.

They might still be doable. You might get clubs reducing demands the closer to the deadline window closing.
