The Goggle Box Thread

Just catching up with the first series of Paradise, it’s brilliant.

Top crack at the Tories in episode 7 too.

Money Heist on Netflix.

On season 5 in no time at all so I'd give it a thumbs up.

Manosphere Louis Theroux thing.

Was alright. Didn't tell us anything we didn't already know if you were interested enough to be watching in the first place.

Unexpected highlight being one of the pillocks referring to 'your mate Jimmy Saville.' Cue long awkward pause before he bleats something about 'being one of the people who exposed him.' Reality was he set out to expose him, ended up being his mate and then made a follow up about how easily manipulated he'd been.

6 episodes of Gone, very good. David Morrissey who plays the Headmaster is brilliant.

Well worth a watch.

Started that last night.

He has nailed the miserable bastard vibe.

We started it last night too, 3 episodes in. Morrissey's character seems like a man that has never smiled or laughed in his life

I didn’t watch it all and was back and forwards between channels but I nothing I saw ‘hit’ with me.
Not sure what I wanted or was looking for but ended thinking that perhaps I’m now too old to be the target audience.
I was young but remember Python, loved Not the Nine O’Clock News and fondly reminisce over Fast Show characters so sketch shows can land. Did this try too hard?

US SNL can be very hit or miss. I try to watch every episode and much prefer the shows with an older host.
I don't know how close your version is to ours, but if you have a "weekend update" that tends to be pretty funny every week. The opening sketch, usually political, is also normally quite good.
I'm surprised it has taken 50 years to try a UK version, but with the right cast and scriptwriters it might succeed - if it doesn't try to be all things to all people.

The general format has been tried several times in the UK, this is the first time it's officially been SNL.
Yeah I remember the 'Friday night live' version late 80s. Hosted by Ben Elton and featuring early incarnations of Harry Enfield, Josie Lawrence etc. I thought it was excellent.

I saw the opening political sketch and thought that was cringeworthy and not at all cutting, clever or satirical. Really poor versions of Rik Mayall's The New Statesman or the PM and his assistant Sebastian on Little Britain.

I enjoyed some bits of it. Others bits didn't really land like the Starmer part.

I think my favourite parts were the pre-recorded skits that they did and the "what kind of Irish is your Grandad" was like Vic & Bob throwback which I enjoyed as well.
