The Goggle Box Thread

Four Lives was fascinating, bloody grim watch though. Steven Merchant was excellent.

Yep caught up with that last night, really good TV. Merchants a talented actor and played the role really well, so bloody sad though.

Feel like I need to watch something happy after the past couple of shows I've watched.

I'm the same, probably watch some more of Wheel of Time, not happy but silly fantasy stuff so not too demanding.
My current thing for a 'happy watch' is a YouTube channel with a young Dutch woman traveling around the world, she has a really positive attitude and its just a joy to watch (if you're interested in overlanding/adventure touring)

Got a link? Sounds like my sort of thing

Does anybody know of any documentaries on Venezuela, and what's happened there socio-economically?
Just seen your post Del, I watched the below as part of the 2021 Human Rights Watch Film Festival - it's more about the protests but does go into enough wider detail and was a great watch. Not sure where you can watch it in full now though.

A La Calle (To The Street)

Yeah that sounds pretty interesting, I do like some positive TV, Bob Ross is pretty decent to make you feel happy, although there's only so many times you can watch him put a happy little tree across a perfectly good picture!

I tried the wheel of time with Mrs Newbridge but she was having non of it, I remember trying similar with GoT and she didn't want to know that either until it had finished and then she became a massive fan.

It's travel by motorcycle but you don't need to be interested in that aspect to enjoy it imv.
Initial videos are only 5-10 minutes long but later about 15-20 minutes, also the first 2 or 3 I found a bit meh, but she gets better as she goes along.

itchy boots season 1 episode 1

For some reason I can't get it to link but if you search Itchy Boots on YouTube, you'll find it easy enough

Fuck me. I'm only half way through the first episode, but Anne is one of the most harrowing things I've watched. Whether it's the football connection - could've been any of us - or whether it's because it happened in my formative years and its resonating more, but fuck I've barely stopped crying. She's putting on one of the most incredible acting performances I can remember seeing

I can’t watch it. Was only young at the time but going to football back then it could have been any of us.

We played Vale away earlier that season. We took 6k in a crammed away end. My feet didn't touch the floor for most of the game. You didn't think anything of it at the time as you couldn't imagine it happening. It's only with hindsight you realise that it was a matter of time, through a combination of the way games were policed, crumbling stadiums and fences that a tragedy would happen. Even with Heysel you didn't imagine it happening here, or at least I didn't.

Green Planet is fantastic, so fascinating. Intelligence comes in many forms.

The Repair Shop, love it. They are all just brilliant at what they do. Will with his wood, Suzie and her leather, Steven and his clocks, Kirsten and her ceramics, and then there's the teddy bear ladies. Not just their skills, but the stories behind the repair items. Great programme.

Just finished watching 'the Last Survivors' on BBC 4 - the last survivors of the holocaust who were in Auschwitz or Dachau as early teens

No annoying music or narration - just their words.

Probably the most powerful bit of TV I have seen - good job that I was watching it on the iPlayer as had to stop it a couple of times. All should see this and remember what can (and has to a degree since) happen
