The Goggle Box Thread

Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader, racehorse owner and friend of Queen Elizabeth II, has died aged 88.

Some brilliant moments but I suspect like Monty Python a lot that wasn’t that funny.
Ditto Spike Milligan. Absolute genius but completely not funny at times. Also his humour has not aged well as regards race and gender.
Coupling was my last real favorite, since then The Goes Wrong Show is hilarious but not a sitcom, and a show whose name I don't remember set in Ancient Rome was good until the best character quit.
Currently getting a few laughs from old episodes of Would I Lie To You?

Agree completely about Spike Milligan. Coupling was excellent.

I've rewatched the Young Ones recently, still loved it.
For more recent ones, Ghosts was excellent.

I was in 6th form when The Young Ones came out and it felt like the greatest thing ever to have been on tv. About the same time as Not the 9 o’clock News which was awesome too. Like a lot of these things they hit the right spot for the right people at the right time. Watched an episode of TYO’s a few years ago and thought it was dreadful.

As a kid quite enjoyed sniggering at some of the 70’s stuff with an innocence we’d be shamed by now. At 13 watching Francoise Pascal seemed a perfectly good reason for looking forward to Mind Your Language. Monty Python and The Goodies were just weird and Fawlty Towers dreadful. Loved the MP films when they came out a bit later so maybe it’s the age thing again.

70’s faves tho several of the obvious ones already mentioned, but would cherry pick TRaF of Reginald Perrin, and (watching with my dad who was in the RAF) Get Some in! which has a special place.

Modern ones Two Doors Down, Motherland, Fleabag. If only able to take one to a desert island to watch on repeat though, would be The Office every time.

Used watch re runs of the Young Ones with my eldest, also used to watch Coupling with my then teenage daughter, we both found it a real belly laugh.
On more up to date comedies, probably my favourite is Detectorists.
