The Goggle Box Thread

I went to school with kids who weren't allowed to watch Grange Hill, their parents thought it was too edgey for them. Some of the storylines from the start until Zammo were quite hard hitting, racism, drugs, bullying, abuse in the home, death, but not contextually in a sanitised way.

I think the Gonch, Ziggy, Imelda year were my favourite as they were the same age as me although I watched it from the start until I went to Poly.
Reminds me of quite a few years ago when my Nephew was over for a visit from Canada, their Son was about 10/11,I put the Simpsons on the TV for him to watch, he was sitting all wide eyed watching when his Mom said, “sorry but he’s not allowed to watch this”.

I remember being gleefully surprised to spot Mr Bronson as Admiral Ozzell in Empire Strikes Back
Michael Sheard also featured in the epic Space 1999 episode Dragon’s Domain. Plus a few dr who episodes - pyramids of Mars for instance. Great actor.

That actually sounds like a conversation Homer and Ned Flanders would have on The Simpsons.

Planet Earth 3 is brilliant. Great start to the series, looks magnificent in 4k too.

Finished Lupin, brilliant stuff. Loved it. Can’t wait for the next season even though it’ll be miles away.

Was it better than UFO though?
Space 1999 was originally going to be UFO series 2 called UFO 1999 then that got cancelled so it became space 1999.
Best spaceship ever in the eagle.
UFO theme tune was ace

I was annoyed though that the Jim'll Fix It theme tune was bouncing around my head all fookin night though!!
I still say 'Now then now then' in his voice as it's just something I did for years. Tried to stop after the revelations but it still comes out now and again.

Just finished the reckoning. Thought the performances were amazing and the abuse was really well dealt with. What let it down was that it didn't really get into how he was able to do it. Thought it would spend more time looking at celebrity culture and the nature of the UK establishment.

The TV doc he made contradicts that. Sav comes to his house and sits in the garden drinking tea. Theroux's narration says they became friends after the initial doc.
I'm currently listening to the audiobook - on the second TV doc right now. Friends is too far - but also a bit near the mark. He was clearly suspicious of him but did totally miss the depth of his depravity. It's an interesting listen and Theroux doesn't spare himself.

Most chilling part for me is when Theroux asks how he got his address:

'I can get anything I want. Your careers safe with me.'

Cunt.

Been watching "Wrestlers" on Netflix. Really interesting behind the scenes look at a former WWE territory trying to stay afloat.

The cynic in me does however suspect that like wrestling itself, some of it is likely staged.
