The Football News Thread 2024/25

Bentancur banned for 7 games for a racial slur about his teammate, Son Heungmin. Strongly suggest you don't read the comments ("you can't say anything these days" pretty much covers it).
Spurs have appealed it, so racism towards Son is to be deplored as they have done on many occasions unless it's done by one of your players. Football constantly let's itself down on issues which are important unless they damage your team.

They've appealed the length of the ban, not the judgement.

And that makes a difference? how? It was only a little bit racist so don't punish him too much? It stinks
If you got fined £100k for speeding at 33 in a 30 you wouldn't appeal the punishment?

I think it's ok to admit wrongdoing but still want a fair punishment. I've no idea what the standard punishment is for this sort of thing but I'm sure Spurs have looked at it before deciding to appeal it.

spurs also apparently have taken no internal action on the comments he made.

Only just seen this. What a dreadful decision to send him off.

Edit- although on reflection he does catch him high which I missed originally in my outrage. This is just a coming together though as he’s trying to slide the ball in even though he’s a about a yard above it... But then if he’s sent off for it for dangerous play then it can’t be overturned surely…

It’s never in the clear and obvious category, catches him high but not at huge pace so VAR is being overused again.
Also it’s aided Everton and hindered Leicester, two potential relegation rivals.
Everton get a free hit v 10 men, Leicester face Brentford close to full strength.

It appears that UK Billionaires couldn't give a stuff about young (and older) fans too. Disgusting to implement the policy mid-season too.

How about not wasting 100s of millions on players who aren't fit for purpose or offering extended contracts to mangers who you wanted to get rid of, didn't and then sacked him a few months later no doubt costing the club millions?

Shi's watching on with interest and ready to benchmark. No increase next season, he said nothing about during this one.

Last season my son went to a Wolves match and a Walsall match (we got free tickets through the football team he plays for) and he enjoyed the Walsall match a lot more* so I am tempted to take him again, especially as they are doing well and it will be cheap.

(*This did have something to do with the fact that you can buy Tangy Toms at Walsall where Wolves only sell overpriced fancy crisps that he doesn't like.)
