I guess it depends what the ultimate aim is. If the objective is to stop clubs spending beyond their means and then going bust, then it is admirable. If the objective is to stop people buying trophies, then that will never happen, as they will always find ways round it.

Commercial revenues will get boosted by ridiculous sponsorship deals and ticket prices will go up even more to allow for bigger salary spends.

plus expect more players and managers to have second jobs as global ambassadors of the sport washing owners.

It will be a huge advantage to Premier League clubs in the Europa League with the relative size of the TV deals between leagues. I think that might make all the other leagues rail against the idea.

Thing is, there isn't a way to do it really, other than just an outright salary cap, and there'll even be ways around that. Just fuck it all off.
There should be a hard cap but low enough so everybody can compete. The luxury tax should be a percentage on a sliding scale above that.

Makes it a level playing field for all.

The proposed scheme makes the rich richer.

Man U have always been in favour of a cap based on % of revenue, it might be a step in the right direction but not ideal. Hard cap has to be the ultimate goal, but I assumed the EU would be against it, so the PL implementing one unilaterally would just level the playing field with european leagues (or worse).

Ornstein has just tweeted: "Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang + fellow striker Alexandre Lacazette are both unwell & therefore will not be available for their side’s opening game of the new Premier League season at Brentford tonight". Not the start to the season they'd want.

Hmmm - they might well both be off. Arsenal have become a very odd club in recent times.

brainless people

As an antidote to the above story, just watching Woody's return to football at last night's Brentford game on Football Focus

Anne Frank trending on Twitter...the reason is because Everton released a video showing the names and some pictures of fans who have passed away during the pandemic. Someone submitted a pic of Anne Frank and it was used.
Also slipping through the net were names such as Mike Oxsmall . Time and a place for jokes Evertonians
