Does it make any difference between 5th/6th what stage they enter the Europa League though?

United and Southampton were both involved in the very early rounds last year.

I think they both go into the 1st round (bit before the Group Stages) but not sure.

Actually 5th go straight into the Group Stages as do the FA Cup Winners.

6th/7th will be Play Off Stage

Can't see where the League Cup winners go though (which would now be 6th place team)

Albeit awaiting Football League approval.
Hopefully this is the start of a Midlands clubs buying spree...

Ha! waiting approval for the least stringent check in exsistence.

FA - Are you planning on being either corrupt, sexist, racist or to make crazy inflammatory remarks?
Owner - Yes
FA - Right going to pretend you said no there...and thats stamped and approved.

David Ginola suffered from a cardiac arrest in Nice 90 minutes ago. He is unconscious but in a stable condition.

Good luck David, you always come across as a nice bloke.

Further news from Talksport.
According to our sources David Ginola has not had a heart attack. He fell ill after playing a football match in high temperatures.

Football League propose expanding to 4 divisions of 20 teams, possibly by bringing in Premier League B teams or promoting from the National League in 2020.

Absolutely appalling idea.

Jim White banging on about it as if it were the greatest thing ever. Just fuck off.

Absolutely appalling idea.

Why? Seems like a good idea to me. The fixture congestion in the Football League is ridiculous.

I've not seen anything about B teams. Adding 8 from the conference seems fine to me, very little difference in quality between that and League 1 atm.

I don't think it's a terrible idea if it's just done on merit by moving teams up from the Conference and restructuring it.

1) There are realistically too many teams now in the Conference who are full-time, ex-Football League teams and it skews the division against semi-pro teams

2) 24 team leagues are an anachronism really, no real need to stick with that just for tradition's sake

3) With FIFA no longer allowing loans through the course of a season it is going to be very tough for lower league clubs to run a squad capable of getting through a 46 game season. You don't really want clubs putting themselves into hock to make sure they have enough players or 16 year olds being chucked into full scale professional football when they aren't ready

Obviously allowing Premier League B teams would be a shit idea on every level.

Basically would mean midweek games becoming very few and far between.
If this does go ahead I'd suggest making tiers 4 & 5 a north and south division.

If they use it to bring in Premier League B teams it is a glass ceiling created by sneakiness.

I don't want the 23 home games cut down to 19 unless we have gone up. We struggle to support 92 pro clubs now. Adding 8 more is insanely risky. Cutting 3 home games revenue from division 2 will almost certainly send clubs to the wall.

As to the "weekend" thing, I call balls. There will be no midweek fixtures in June. Then Sky (who are behind this I am sure) will move a game every night from the weekend fixtures. Guaranteed.

We have way more than 92 full time clubs now Pad. Have a look at the top half of the Conference.

The national league is basically a fifth division anyway. Personally I think it is worth considering, most sides on the football league have their worst attendances for midweek games.

True! However, I think my point stands in leagues 1 and 2 about losing 3 games killing clubs. They need seat revenue. TV revenue is nothing in the equation at that level.

You'd hope reducing fixtures may increase the quality of football.
Will it remain 3 up and down also with smaller leagues, plus finishing 6th in a division of 20 really warrant a chance at promotion.

Promotion to and relegation from the Premier League will remain 3 up 3 down. However no mention on the playoffs as yet.

As I say, I don't believe the idea would even be floating without the Premier League bunging sweetener money to try and get their B teams involved. I also don't believe for a second that we will all kick off on Saturday at 3pm. No chance. There will be games moved all over the week by Sky and those games will replace weekend games for the clubs involved.

Very suspicious of this idea indeed.
