Anything that goes past the keeper and arrives on target at around chest height is going to lead to at absolute minimum a loose ball in the six yard box. Free kick goes straight down the middle and the keeper is stood where he normally is - he catches it (unless he is Brad Jones). What are defenders going to do?

Could they not stoop and head it?

Unlikely you're going to be getting much height and/or distance clearing the ball like that. Assuming whoever it is reacts in time in the first place.

Diego Costa is set to contest the charge of violent conduct. I do not think he has much chance of winning the case.

Costa banned for 3 games for the 'stamp'. Seems very soft to me. Stamp implies he hurt him (which he didn't) but there is a clear difference between being stamped on, and trodden on imo. Yellow card at worst for me.

It did happen twice and IMO they were at least avoidable steps.

The second one was nothing like a stamp - unless he managed to float, he had to put his foot down sometime. The first he trod on him and it was avoidable. Wasn't a stamp though.

So you're saying Emre Can be stepped on but Can not be stamped on. :)

As with all things it's the intent rather than the outcome. It was a deliberate offence and therefore deemed violent conduct

Stoke City's Robert Huth will serve a two match ban and is fined £15k after he admitted breaching FA Rules in relation to social media.

I think that Coosta clearly stamped on the player, and that is violent conduct. Had the referee seen it I am sure he would have sent him off.

I think both stamps/step ons could have been avoided easily..so he should have been sent off imo

They're making him pay 5 grand for slagging off the owner on a fucking Internet forum? Fucking hell.

I've been reading and writing social media policy at work this past week and in the US that would have been protected speech. Strange it isn't in the UK.
