My partner, who is a 3 and a half hour marathon runner, was overtaken at the end of the Liverpool half by a bloke running in flip flops...

Amazing! No matter how good a runner you are, there's always someone better than you!

We're doing a virtual running challenge at work at the moment - trying to raise some money and awareness for student financial hardship caused by the pandemic.

The competition between us all is REALLY helping with motivation. I did 5 miles on Tuesday and 8 on Thursday, and I'm going to try and do 10 tomorrow. My aim is to do a half marathon distance by the end of March.

Really enjoying it and I feel better for doing it. Also doing some yoga once a week with my other half and I can notice the difference it's making.

Having been my heaviest ever weight 6 weeks into lockdown last year, I'm now the lowest I've been for two years. Just down to installing a step counter app and setting myself a target number of steps. Am eating what I like and drinking wine whenever I like and the weight is dropping off me. Whodve thunk you could do that with a decent long walk every day!

This will definitely come across as a bit (very!) big headed and I know it doesn’t really mean much - but this has just made me stupidly happy.

I was massively unfit a year ago - that 0.1 rise today has just taken me into the top category for my age

Asics usually have some budget friendly ones and they're a decent brand.

I really like Brooks but they seem to wear quickly, I've found Adidas have a better sole and wear much more slowly than brooks

Thanks - I have Adidas at the moment and they've done well, but have 500+ km on them and at over £100 a pop I want something I can use for everyday running. Will have a look at the asics store.

500km is about expected lifespan for running trainers. I tend to rotate shoes to help the foam recover from each run.

Also, keep an eye out for last seasons model - often a good shoe but it's no longer the "latest and greatest" so it's cheaper!

think steve cram once said something like everything above £35 on running shoes is going towards the marketing budget.

Obviously this was some years ago, but the principle probably still stands.

(am a lazy non-running bastard, so no real help whatsoever I guess...)

I also have a pair of Adidas Ultraboost and i can assure you that the foam may be the same (i'm not sure it is, different manufacturers use different foams, see Nike for details) but that the Reebok is streets ahead of that heavy, uninspiring Ultraboost shoe, which has been relegated to a walking shoe for a long time now.

However the Lightstrike foam in the Adizero is much more responsive (though firmer) than the boost foam in the Ultraboost or other Adidas variants.

The solar boosts review well, i fell into the hype trap with the Ultraboost, they are really heavy, comfy for walking but too heavy for running. That's why i like the Floatride, it's a perfect hybrid shoe.

Soon as I read about them earlier I thought they were ideal for me - I need decent cushioning too.

Saying that B-I-L has just been round in a pair of Hoka Cliftons, they looked ace..

The blown TPU is the same in the Boost and Floatride. The Ultraboost is a stiffer midsole from a slightly different TPU.

Both materials are part owned by BASF.
