The Film Thread

Last of Us season 2 is fantastic
I thought it was a lot slower than season 1. Some shocking moments and some great drama, but they seemed to be fewer and far between the slow bits. Last episode ended on a cliffhanger but we now have to wait until 2027 for season 3.

Watched Locke again last night, excellent film.

Though I appreciate it's probably a bit marmite.

Excellent cast, although you only see Hardy!

The Legend of Barney Thomson

Daft and silly but it's cracked me up. Not often I actually laugh at films.

Watched the first 30 minutes of ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ film on Netflix this evening (will watch the rest tomorrow). Love the books, like Richard Osman, incredible cast - I have high hopes.

From the first half hour I’ve summarised that it very much has a Midsummer Murders/Jonathan Creek vibe about it.

Some will love it, others will hate it.

Watched this tonight. Enjoyed it

I might have been looking for it too much but aside from towards the end I don't think the charm hit that well, felt a bit too cheesy instead

I enjoyed it too - but was frustrated with how they portrayed Bogdan & the male copper.

Cracking cast but felt a bit slapstick and rushed towards the end. Hopefully the do a sequel!

Threads is being re-made. Not sure how I feel about that.

The Ballad of Wallis Island

A nice watch. Laughed at a few of the puns because I'm saft. If you need something light hearted and completely chill, it's not bad.

The Smashing Machine. I really enjoyed it with good performances from Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt and Ryan Bader.

There’s a film coming out in January called Saipan about the infamous bust up at the 2002 World Cup between Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy. The trailer is knocking about on social media.
Steve Coogan is playing Mick.!

Just finished the "The Long Walk"

Not sure what to make of it having read the book.

Anyone seen it?

Nuremberg. A decent account of Göring's relationship with Kelley. However, there are some powerful messages from the movie that resonate today;

Charismatic leaders and their narratives can seize power and manipulate people into creating scapegoats. The ease with which fascism can re-emerge is a key concern, urging viewers to recognize and resist similar ideologies in the present day.

The film serves to ensure that the events and their lessons are not forgotten. It is an "urgent call to stand up to fascism" by remembering what happened and acknowledging that such evils "can happen again".

Personalities capable of such atrocities could be found anywhere in the world and would not be easily identifiable by a specific appearance or a "scary uniform" the next time a similar threat arose.

Future demagogues or authoritarians would likely appear as ordinary businessmen or politicians, manipulating emotions and exploiting divisions among people to gain power, much like the Nazis had done.
