12 penalty points during a 12-month period = automatic one race ban

Even Maldonado never copped a ban for accumulation of points, which tells you everything.

Yes quite lenient given that it was a deliberate action that could have taken another driver out of the race.

Maybe Lewis was asked by Mercedes to toe the team line, and tell the stewards he was partly responsible, so that the stewards went easy on him?

I doubt Lewis strayed from what he said on his last interview on Sky. He was very careful and never outright said it was Nico's fault, he basically said he got ahead and Nico went into his blind spot, so he left a ton of space and went to the very edge of the bend and then they hit when he turned.

The video of the incident shows the true nature of it and Nico should have turned before he did. He deliberately kept in a straight line to force Lewis off the track (and then gave zero space to let him back on after the crash which could have led to another impact). Nico has been very very very lucky indeed.

I've just seen it, should have been a worse punishment and amazing that Rosberg didn't take Lewis out then by being a little brat. Just couldn't bear to lose and tried to run him off the road

Nico still being a cock "they blamed me, that sucks. I don't agree with them"

Would be wise for him to button it being as he hasn't signed a new contract yet.

He's shown time and again that it's only the car that makes him a contender. I'd be dropping him in favour of a driver who doesn't fall apart as soon as anyone says boo in his ear.

This was the first win this season he actually had to fight for and he lost.

Quite. I can't think of a balls-requiring situation he's been in at Mercedes where he's actually shown he's got a pair. He looked a lot better driver at Williams, IMO. Either of the Red Bullers (unlikely, I know) or even Perez would be a worthy teammate for Hamilton, or someone like Wehrlein could be given a chance.

Wehrlein is the only one they'd look to promote, IMO. They want a German in there for corporate reasons.

Nico is a fundamentally quick driver but he's clearly hot headed when the pressure ramps up. Second place yesterday wouldn't have been a bad result considering the penalty he started with. He drove a superb race up until that point.

Well, he managed to overtake a lot of slower cars without hitting them, agreed. :) I'd love to see Wehrlein get the seat.

Nico is the same caliber of driver as a Mark Webber, decent, but never World Class and wouldn't be a great World Champion.

The move he tried, failed because Hamilton had his nose in front which enabled him to turn in front of Nico. If Lewis' car was half a meter further back (i.e. they were dead level) then it would have been a great defensive block.

Punishment was weak, the stewards should default to a mentality of a punishment has to have an impact. Whether that was to imply a further 5-10 seconds on top of the original penalty or whether to give him a 3-5 place grid drop at the next race.

I'm not reading too much into Nico's outbursts, IMO he was just trying to appear hard done by to try and keep the penalty down - which worked.

Raikkonen confirmed for 2017 alongside Vettel at Ferrari. Slightly surprised at this.

Of the huge choice of young drivers as well, they give that miserable git another year.
