The F1 Thread

They lost 8 seconds not using VSC and the gap was 19 seconds on a faster strategy. They wouldn’t have been remotely close - IMO of course. Track position would have been doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Track position can slow the other down, I think Ferrari overly committed to the 1 stop and showed they still aren't great with strategy. Yes they may have, probably, still finished where they did but with the gap over 5th, Lewis was spot on at least one of them should have tried it.

The race settled after a while, it does look like some of the changes allowing cars to follow each other will be very positive. I don't mind the electrical power use, but it shouldn't be applied in such a way that a driver doesn’t drive on the limit. Without having got into the detail it sounds like drivers have some ideas I hope the FIA take seriously.

They were ahead at that point and Russell couldn't stick ahead of Leclerc in the early running before Hadjar's engine went pop. It would certainly have been interesting if Ferrari had pitted one to sit in front of the mercs and the other had tried to bolt off into the distance.

No doubt whatsoever though that the Merc is the quickest car without any traffic.
They 100% should have hedged agreed.

As above, yes they should have let Lewis pit, there was no risk and it gives them some protection from all the variables.

Obviously track position matters, it’s been the only thing that’s mattered since god knows when as they couldn’t follow etc.

But given there was the ability to pass each other, and the Mercedes clearly had way faster pace both in single lap and on much older tyres then I don’t think it would have made any difference. Leclerc was already running out of tyres and he had clean air and much newer than the Mercedes.

Probably best belongs on the Bell end thread but Steve Jones and his 'im too cool schtick' is truly pathetic. He's a grown man acting like a 13 year old, he has one of the best jobs in the world and is a total cunt. Bring back Jake Humrphey FFS.

Edit - probably could go on the annoy thread too.

Don't shoot me, Jake used to be ok when covering F1...

Fucking hell, you think you know your mates :D

Didn’t know who he was but now I’m going to have to watch some C4 F1 coverage to find out. Seems like a normal bloke on that segment just…

No shock here but Bahrain and Saudi races will be cancelled.
Not being replaced so season reduced to just 22 races.

We'd honestly be better off going back to about 18 races.

More chance of getting a race every week from Australia to Abu Dhabi

Ok so I'm enjoying the racing today, this doesn't feel too artificial. Just be nice to not have to consider electric limits, and in due course to see the cars closing up but that's just innovation for you ans fair play to those who have outthought others. Does seem Mercedes have have limited engine info flow to it's supplier teams though.

Not a great look to have 4 cars not even starting the race and Honda still run the risk of being humiliated in their home race next time out but am getting more comfortable with the contrived power boosts and seeing drivers learn how to use them.

The Lewis/Charles battle was superb to watch.

Merc in a slightly different world to the rest. Hoping Ferrari manage to find a way to get closer to them in the next couple of races...mainly as I want to witness a Lewis win when I go to the Canada race.

Mad that after 3 races together there will then be a month gap, then Miami at the start of May and then another few weeks before that race in Montreal.

No, but it's the start of the new regs and they have a long break soon to try to figure things out. I recall watching in the 90s and even parts of 00s where this happened a bit more often, we've got used to teams having no reliability issues in recent years. Main surprise is Cadillac doesn't seem to be the one with issues, just miles off the pace despite the Ferrari engine.

I see Max is threatening to take his ball home as he is not competitive. Such a shame.
All the shit his Dad and Marko gave Lewis when the Merc went flying back down the grid....its good to see his toys flying out of the Red Bull pram.

On today's race, George needs to check his entitlement. Lost his head because of the safety car screwing his race up and never got going properly again. Wasted his time moaning and questioning if Kimi was doing things as they had planned.

Hopefully the long break and just 1 race between now and the end of May, McLaren and Ferrari get the slight improvements they need and Red Bull start to challenge Aston Martin...

From someone I know who works in F1, George is a bit of an arrogant twat and Max is actually nice away from racing.
