The F1 Thread

A typical Hungarian race, overtaking is all but impossible. Get pole in Hungary and you should win, which is why I didn't bother to watch the procession today.
But oddly not many pole sitters have gone on to win there. Think Vettel is the 14th to do it in Hungary. Usually there are a lot racing incidents as drivers try to overtake. Today was generally impossible to get close due to cars struggling in the heat of the track and air from the car in front. If the track had been cooler there may have been more incidents.

I think that is due to mistakes by the pole sitters. Negotiate the first corner, and stay in front at the end of the first lap, and mistakes or mechanical problems apart, then the pole sitter should win. Though I agree it does not always work out that way.

Yeah, many problems due to the heat today

Pretty monstrous effort from Lando Norris in the McLaren this morning. Huge talent.

I think we will see several young drivers coming through next year

I'm not sure McLaren will promote him next year. He'll take the Lewis path I imagine and be in F2 next season and F1 in 2019.

Leclerc on the other hand has to be involved next season. Absolutely sensational season so far.

In for raikkonen me thinks

Leclerc will be at Sauber as part of the engine deal.

Kimi being kept on by the looks of it because Vettel wants him there.

I'm amazed Kimi is seemingly so happy to be the second driver and help vettel out

Aah ok, didnt know that

I don't think you tell what Kimi's emotions are - 1 setting for any occasion.

He's old, he's no longer good enough to challenge for the title and Ferrari pay him a lot of money.

so who will replace Kimi then? Dont think he will get another year in a top team like Ferrari..?

He will get another year; Seb likes him (because he's no real threat), the team like his feedback on the car etc and having an experienced, fairly reliable driver who'll just chip away picking up points and not wanging the car into the wall all the time, there isn't a standout, easily attainable candidate to replace him out there.

In 2019 they'll change it. Danny Ric would be my choice.

like Ricciardo too..do you not think Ferrari want a better 2nd driver next year to compete in the constructors championship?

If Vettel is still there more chance of me getting the drive than Danny Ric.

Vettel will want a yes man in the 2nd car. So Grosjean or one of their junior drivers if they have had good 1st year in F1 elsewhere. Maybe see if Eddie Irvine fancies being the Ferrari bitch again...

They'll take Kimi for another year and then see if Leclerc is ready, or they'll move for Max IMO.
