The F1 Thread

Just caught the channel 4 extensive highlights, what a fantastic race. 2 absolute greats driving flat out and fighting on the track. Cracking season so far

Great race to watch. The fight for 7-11 was a good one as well.

Superb team play from Bottas, that 4 laps holding up Vettel was major help to Lewis. The pass by Vettel on Bottas was brave as well, another few inches and he risked a spin like Lewis did last year when he clipped the grass. The incident when Vettel and Lewis touched was as close as you get to the line in racing and good to see they both could smile and respect the move after the race. The way Lewis shot ahead of Vettel was incredible and every time he spoke on the radio it sounded like he was running the race instead of driving it. Felt for Bottas, always up against having to use an engine that was close to the end of its life, so no shock when it went pop. Red Bull landed on their arse today, getting a 3rd position but a few more laps and Ricciardo would have had Lewis and Vettel lapping him.

A major help this year is the stewards attitude to incidents and not littering the place with time penalties, drive throughs etc. Letting them race and understanding the majority of incidents are just part of racing.

Yeah that's a good point, they're really trying to let as much go as possible which is leading to better racing. Shame about the first corner collision but along with Bottas retiring it meant a good day for some of the lower teams. Very impressive drive from Wehrlein despite losing a place for getting a silly penalty

I see Max and Kimi are blaming Bottas for the first corner, but not really much he could do to avoid it really. He was already onto the inside kerb when he hit Kimi.

I can see their frustrations with it, but absolutely just an unlucky racing incident.

What a race though, absolutely top class.

Looked like Bottas braked a bit too early which gave kimi and max a gap, just one of those things though, there wasn't quite enough room for all 3 of them

Bottas has a habit of braking early on 1st corners when he is getting close to a car directly in front of him and that has caused a few incidents. He did it last year in Russia (I think) and damaged Hamilton's car. Not brave enough to go to the edge and take the risk unlike Vettel & co would.

Ooooof - he didn't back out there!

In the race that would be a caution flag I think to check for debris.

He is going to either be immense or have a big prang I reckon.

Alonso. Has. Big. Fucking. Balls.

Some effort.

Fucking hell absolutely horrendous shunt for Bourdais.

How he's getting out of that one I do not know. Christ.

Multiple fractures to his pelvis and a fractured hip. Ouch!

Aaand Fernando needs an engine change. Sounds familiar.

Stroll bins it into the wall in FP2 at Monaco. Red flags out.

He isn't going to make it is he.

nice that Vettel can fight this season

Doesn't bode well that Jenson is currently outpacing Vandoorne either. He's never even driven the car before today.

Well he currently isn't and was just over a tenth slower in FP1.

Monaco will at least mask their engine problems though and show what the drivers can do.

Absolute shocker for Lewis. Cannot afford to leave things to a last run around here. Has to be something up with the car though as that was too bad to be be true.

Absolutely sensational catch at turn three though.

Brilliant qualifying though. So good to see the top bunch so close together.

I've slammed Kimi plenty of times in recent years, but fair play, tremendous performance.
