The F1 Thread

I imagine it stabilises and directs the airflow onto the rear wing better.

New Ferrari has a fin, and also a stubby nose. Not the prettiest thing ever to leave Maranello.

I quite like the mclaren, maybe a bit too much orange though, reminds me of the 2000/2001 arrows

Well first hour of testing categorically proves these cars will be quicker - the Ferrari time is a good second and a half better than anything the Merc managed on the first day last year.

And the McLaren is bost.

So Mercedes do have a sharkfin. But they can set several different grades of it depending upon circumstances. Interesting.

Honda are a mess.

Impressive to design an oil tank that can't function properly. Onto their third new engine already too.

Sounds like they have designed a turbine that has to take on a ridiculous level of stress to be competitive. There's clever.

Merc developed it over many years though. All that Brawn time they were getting it ready for rule-changes to come. Honda are playing catch up rugby and this seems a huge step in a short time. I hope they can get it right as competitiveness within the field improves the spectacle, but consistency and reliability are going to be a big ask.

German magazine saying that the Honda is again absolutely miles down on power and they can't figure out what the current issue is that has forced them off track today.

Wouldn't overly surprise me if Alonso walks before long if it is that farcical again.

Mercedes are ludicrously quick.

Certainly cranked it up this morning. Also putting in some serious amounts of laps in the 3 days as well. Lewis out again this afternoon and will probably add another 70 to the total

That 1.19 was on ultra soft wasn't it?

I thought Ferrari looked pretty close yesterday but maybe not judging by Bottas this morning. I imagine Hamilton will smash that time up this afternoon just to lay a marker down as well.

Encouraging pace from Palmer in the Renault though.

It was. I think they beat the previous bests on Super Soft and Soft as well this morning

Stroll slaps it into the wall. That's his third off in 24 hours.

What a waste of a testing day. Artificially dampening the track has made the Merc develop a minor electrical fault that only seemed to sort itself out when the track dried. Now that the circuit have announced they will be wetting the track again over lunch I reckon that little fault might just come back again.

Alonso scathing about Honda.

When asked whether he was able to take Barcelona's Turn 3 flat out, Alonso also made a joke about the lack of performance.

"Oh yeah, for us, not only Turn 3," he smiled. "For us nearly all the corners are flat."
