The F1 Thread

Alonso not deemed able to drive this weekend. Vandoorne in.

Sounds like a sensible move. No point in the doctors taking a risk if they were in any way unsure.

Fractured his ribs in the tiny smash he had in Australia.

Great work by Jenson, 3rd in FP2. Whisper it but McLaren actually looked ok.

I think Ferrari are struggling with tyres this season. They couldn't get the mediums to work in Australia, and it looks like they are struggling with pace on the softs in Bahrain. Their car looks to be quite gentle on the tryes this year meaning they struggle to get heat into them quickly. Bad news for them on abrasive tracks like Bahrain, good news for them when tracks like Monaco and Barcelona come around.

Alonso burning Herbert live on TV was glorious.

I enjoyed Brundle finding new and interesting ways to slag the format off all the way through.

Amazing lap at the end of the affair by Hamilton.

Amazing lap at the end of the affair by Hamilton.

About as perfect as he could do.

If any teams vote against scrapping this fucked up system then they should be binned from F1. 3 mins left and we are all done. Fucking farce.

I liked the end of Q1. Superb. Nobody out there to try and get into Q2. And then the end of Q2 where the only reason the Williams were out was to improve their time (not to get higher up the grid, but to be able to start with a nicer set of boots). Fucking joke.

All the teams voted to scrap the new qualification system.

All the teams voted to scrap the new qualification system.

The last vote they had, which was to replace the current system with Q1 & Q2 as they are and Q3 to be a 10 minute shoot out - Red Bull & McLaren voted against it as they didn't want a compromise but it scrapping all together. So, the Qualification stayed as it is.

Apparently tomorrow they are having another vote but this time the option to go back to how it was will be available to vote for.

Jean Todt seems to be getting the shit for this lasting to Bahrain as he didn't offer the right options. Bernie is wringing his hands at this terrible qualifying. Which, as he will have told Todt what to offer, is somewhat ironic.

Just wish he would hurry up and sort out the sale of F1 and fook off.

Fee agreed apparently but no doubt he just wants to make sure he has enough £££ spare to cover any future court case buy outs

David Croft is reporting that the FIA and the promoters are unwilling to go back to the original qualifying format.

Claire Williams has told him the teams have put together a whole new format to be voted on by Thutsday. No details forthcoming, but it won't be a hybrid system as recommended before.

It might have legs. However, the teams are going to need to be really on the ball to work out what time they need in the second lap to get an aggregate that puts them into the next part of quali. Will definitely need more tyres you would think, but there would be plenty of track action.

Oh dear. Vettel out on the formation lap. Engine failure.

Vettel's engine has gone pop on the Formation lap. Race over for him
