You can have a deep lying playmaker, a bit of an all rounder with a strong defensive side to their game, a destroyer...so long as they've played in a deeper role for a significant part of their career. So I'd rule out say, Lampard, but Pirlo would be fine even though he started further up the park.

Fernando Hierro is a great shout & I did consider him for my top 6, but unfortunately the fact he played for Bolton pushed him out.

Very vivid memories of him missing a penalty v England in Euro 96. He was a titanic centre half, though.
