Indeed.

It might be my blind spot, but when I hear him interviewed I cant imagine how anyone would think he’d make an appropriate vice captain. Maybe in the future, with support, as he’s going to be in the team and everyone has potential. But this is here and now. Terrible thinking.

Hearing Bethell talk after his knock yesterday was a breath of fresh air. Can’t remember the exact question, but it was something about how he has managed to go on and make a score when others haven’t. But I remember his reply: “I just concentrate”. Seemed both perfectly simple and a damming inditement of his team mates.

Surviving isn't a bad trait for a batsman to have, looking at some of the efforts put in by the England top order!

Not so much 'surviving', but certainly patience is a virtue that's lacking.

2 things in here I didn't know previously and are going to further damage the Test team. In essentially selling The Hundred to India they have committed to England players being fully available for the IPL and The Hundred.

Interesting to see how that pans out with Stokes as he clearly has no interest in franchise slop (he's only played Test cricket since mid-2024, no white ball games at all) and has already heavily hinted that he won't play again in The Hundred in 2026 (despite having a contract with Super Northern Chargers or whatever they're called)
