India win by 295 runs. A great start to the working week.

Quite the performance from India. Battering the Aussies by 295 runs in Ozzy takes some doing and the performances by Jaiswal and Bumrah were outstanding. Nice to see Virat get another hundred. Class is permanent. Really nice to see the Ozzies bullied at home. :)

Jimmy misses out on an IPL contract.

Bethell to make his test debut for England and bat at 3. He’s not got a hundred in senior professional cricket.

Nor does he bat that high up. Even with my Warwickshire bias it's a silly selection

I assume trying to protect Pope with the gloves too and he will drop down the order? Seems a strange one though.

England legend Graham Thorpe has been honoured in a new Crowe-Thorpe Trophy.

The trophy will be used to mark Test fixtures against England and New Zealand going forward.

Part of the trophy is made up of the bat Graham used to score his first two centuries against New Zealand.

Graham’s handwriting has been carefully lifted off the face of his bat and inserted onto the trophy.

Darren Lehman is saying that Joe Root is rung below Steve Smith and Virat Kohli even though his batting average is better than Kohli’s.
Also stating Kohli and Smith have scored runs everywhere, well again Kohli struggled massively at times in England.

His point was that Root has not really performed well in an away ashes series or scored a 100 there.

The exact same logic you can use on Kohli who isn’t very good in English conditions.

Not really, he's scored 2 100s in England and won a series. Not great but is better than Root

Extremely thin though Root still has 3 innings in the 80’s over there and 5 half centuries so very minute detail.
As said how you can class someone as being a rung below someone when their career average is higher is a bit strange also.

Root has a couple of centuries in India too and one being a double century. So if the detail is that minute then the batting average has to come into play.
Very Australian attitude that everything good in cricket comes from Australia and everything bad comes from England. The phrase I hate the most is “he plays like an Aussie” when begrudgingly praising an opponent.

He is engaging in this nonsense, and including Virat who has been bang out of form for several series in a row to rope India into the rhetoric for two reasons.

1. To try and get inside England's heads before the Ashes and denigrate the best English batsman.
2. To make India sound really fucking amazing to excuse the fact that Convict CC have just received the worst pummelling in a home test since before Jesus was in short trousers.

It's a clumsy attempt at foreshadowing the Glenn McGrath 5-0 prediction that will arrive in about 6 months.

Pay it no mind.

He's not played in Australia for 3 years. His point about a 100 over there is accurate, but at the moment he's the best batsman in the world. Bringing Kohli into the conversation at the moment is farcical.

At the end of their careers it's fair to look at all 3 and Wiliamson, as the greatest of their generation and debate who was the best, but at this particular stage it's Root and it's fairly clear

Bowling first and a superb c&b by Atkinson

So sounds like we called up the not knob head Ollie Robinson to replace Cox but he needed a new passport so he’s been delayed getting to NZ, hence the weird team for this game.
