The Cricket Thread

Foakes is a very good keeper and a decent batsman, he isn't what people paint him as every time he doesn't get picked, it's fucking irritating.

Scotland beat Zimbabwe.

NRR is tight though so they probably still need to beat Netherlands. Zimbabwe are done I think.

Scotland and the Netherlands already have a better NRR so the qualifier will be one of those two.

Edit - I thought I saw weather mentioned when I was replying.

Straight shootout between Netherlands and Scotland I think Scotland can afford a very narrow defeat and go through.
I think you can safely say it’s 4 from 5 for the semi finals already. Australia, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand being the 5, South Africa have an outside chance but the rest simply won’t be able to string enough results together.

To add this format leaves the competition open to a lot of dead rubbers.

Anthony Albanese Aussie PM “all of Australia is behind Pat Cummings, same old Aussies always winning”

He only tweeted because our short stuff incompetent commented about cricket to hide the fact he can’t comment on anything political.

Hard him on the radio yesterday.

Can't across as a right cunt, even citing is for bad sportsmanship and spirit of the game.

Politicians getting involved or commenting on sport is an annoying thing, Sunak should’ve stayed out of it firstly.

The cricketing world mainly India is backing what Australia have done and are viewing England as being a bit precious.
I have absolutely no problem with this but it means anything goes as long as it’s in the rule book is fair game.
I’d love to see the reaction if India or Australia lost the WC final this year to a mankad done by England.
Sport is hypocritical the victim will claim morals the beneficiary the rule book.
Look keep saying it Bairstow is a clown, never ever trust that Australia will not push the boundaries of the laws it’s simple.
Same goes for backing up on the non strikers end.
England whilst they might not like it need to get as ruthless.

I am actually way more fine with mankads if someone is clearly down the pitch getting an advantage than what happened to Bairstow.

As long as there’s a warning and blatant backing up fair enough.
The most recent one I’ve seen England v India women’s cricket.
Absolutely no warning and the batsmen was barely out the crease during the bowling stride.

I think you’ll find they prefer the term “batter” in the women’s game.

It's actually the official term in all forms of cricket [/pedant]

Woakes, Ali, Wood In Pope, Anderson, Tongue out.
Variety in bowling an probably makes the tail less fragile having said that I just don’t get Moeen being back far to expensive.

Crawley
Duckett
Brook
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Moeen
Woakes
Broad
Wood
Robinson

Problem is it makes Mo so pivotal (albeit we have four seamers + Stokes rather than three at Edgbaston). He's averaged below 20 for a long time in Test cricket, we need way better than that if he's batting at 7.

Robinson is very lucky, Tongue should absolutely play.

Can't see that batting lineup being very successful. Need Root & Stokes to score big, otherwise its pretty brittle.

I suppose the thinking is Mo, Wood and Woakes will hopefully match the runs Pole, Tongue and Anderson would get.

I think Tongue is partly fitness/resting so that we don’t break him.
