The Cricket Thread

Crap attack India have picked, no threat after the opening burst. They even had a preview last year of how rubbish Thakur is when we battered him everywhere, hasn't played a Test since, still picked him here.

Especially with Head/Carey/Starc at 5/7/8.

No way Thakur is better than him with bat or ball in anything other than the most seam-friendly conditions, and The Oval is rarely in that bracket.

If it’s a draw do they share the title?

Won’t make any difference I fully expect Australia to make 500 then India to struggle to avoid the follow on.

If they stay fit then I fear that this Aussie attack will be too much for us this summer.

Starc doesn't particularly bother me and Hazlewood hasn't been able to stay fit for a long time. The others look good though.

India 296 all out. 173 run deficit.

Think their attack is too weak to prevent Australia piling on enough to make the result a formality.

Got Australia in a bit of bother but plenty of runs in the bank to win. TBH England look miles better than either side.

Don’t read too much into the first test of an English summer. Sth Africa turned up here a few years ago, Smith and Kallis stood in the slips looking like they’d eaten the 12th man and subsequently demolished us the rest of the summer.

Test cricket has changed a lot. England terrify every other test side now.

Anyway, India need quick wickets or the chase will be too much. I’m getting coverage from Channel 7 here. Usual UK Sky feed of comms plus Langer and Ponting and the quite sublime Kumar Sangakarra. He is sooo good. The Michael Holding replacement has been chosen well.

Sadly we still have Ravi Shastri.

It's an ICC feed rather than Sky for this one, like they have for World Cups. We've got the same as you I'm fairly sure but you'll have different commentators next week I'd have thought.

I’m not even sure in the channel here. Ashes always used to be Nine but Seven have this. No doubt I will find it and I can let you know who is pontificating. I expect Langer and Ponting for sure as they are both defo over there for the whole British summer.

Strange that Aus are still batting here. 435 in front.

That's still nearly an hour away though. I mean maybe it won't matter, just seems pointless.
