The Cricket Thread

What winds me up is that Fivelive sports extra will stop the commentary from the county championship for that drivel.

I always wanted to go to Somerset v Warkwickshire for all the days of a championship game with DW. We could have turned it into quite the four day piss up in Taunton. Sadly no chance now I guess. I probably need to start making connections to ensure when the Ashes are back over here I can get all five days of the Gabba test.

Same drill as every year. Decide to put the IPL on to see if it's improved.

2 hours and 40 minutes in, they've bowled 23 overs, 88 year old MS Dhoni is still playing and Ravi Shastri is still shouting/commentating. So that'll be a no.
Does that make our Jimmy 87 then as he is only a year younger?

The audience's are massive for it and I can never understand why. The standard has been overtaken by all the other T20 tournaments
Totally agree. The quarter full Australian stadiums where hardly any internationals of note played definitely show the big bash was a better standard. All these commentators, players and experts that call it the best are clueless.

Those commentators all on the payroll of the BCCI you mean? Reading between the lines even the players know it's a long way off perfect. See Buttler's comments about 20 overs taking 2 hours for details. As a marketing and cash generating monalith, particularly in the home market it's uncomparable, if someone farts it has a sponsor. As a sporting spectacle it's slow and boring

So when they talk about the ipl constantly during our hundred and t20 blast they are on the bcci payroll as well? I get it us English can't stomach the fact India runs the game but making stupid comments like @Johnny75 about the big bash or Bangladesh premier league being a higher standard just plays up to the arrogant tag other nations attach to us.

Also 29 off 5 balls to win yesterday is truly boring. Currently pooran bringing his team from the brink is boring. Only our t20 blast games played in front of 30 people are fun.

Another boring game in the ipl. Chasing 213 lsg were 23/3. Some incredible batting from pooran and stoinis got them Requiring 15 off the last 2 overs with 4 wickets left it goes down to the last ball. So boring. Give me an English hundred game where no one understands the rules or a t20 blast full of third rate county players any day.

I quite like IPL but more as a spectacle than an actual game of cricket.
