Good to see him back.

Although there's absolutely no need to rush him back into Test action. In home conditions, would you necessarily pick him over any of Anderson, Broad, Robinson or Woakes....

Ignoring the fitness side, for a balanced attack, yes. In the same way I'd have Wood over one of them.

Well, it's Australia in the summer.

You're going to pick Broad because of his history against them (especially Warner).
Jimmy is obviously going to play.
Robinson has 40 wickets @ 18.22 at home, Woakes has 160 wickets @ 22.63 at home.

Jofra has 30 wickets @ 26.86 at home and Wood has 35 wickets @ 40.71 at home.

Then you throw in Woakes' batting as a difference maker.

I would not fix what isn't broken.

Equally, despite being over bowled due to poor captaincy by Root, the Aussies were scared stiff of Archer in 2019.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm just saying we're not at a point where we have to throw him back in ASAP because we're desperate.

Although I do suspect that 2023 will be Broad's final year and Woakes probably doesn't have too long left in Test cricket either, scarily he's 34 in March.

Brook has made himself £1.3m and SCurran £1.85m in the IPL auction.

I see without Ben Stokes that Test matches in Pakistan have gone back to their usual dull drawing selves

The run rates are just a different world. I think it was Waqar who also pointed out that the longest England innings in the entire series was 101 overs. We refuse to drain the life out of a test even on a road.

To follow up on the above Australia appear in a commanding position v the Saffers in Sydney but have taken 2 rain affected days to get to 475-4 in 131 overs. England score quicker and even in their slowest innings would have already had 30 overs at the oppo.

Just after tea on day 4 in Pakistan v NZ and it looks like both teams are already giving it up as a draw.

Sussex trying to sign Steve Smith ahead of the Ashes. Absolute fucking bellends.
I'm sure I've said it before but could you imagine an Aussie state side allowing our best players to play Sheffield shield cricket to warm up for an oversea's Ashes series?

I'll forgive Glamorgan having Labuschagne because he plays for them every year (although them effectively fielding 6-7 overseas players all the time with some creative ancestry, and never contributing any players to England since 2005 is another matter).

This is just ridiculous self-interest, unless the plan is to have him facing Jofra every day in the nets and he might get injured.
