They must have expected him to bowl more. And I guess leaving him out after his first innings figures on debut...?

I think they expected Jacks to bowl more for sure, maybe if we’d had a bigger first innings score he would have but with Leach not doing much I guess it wasn’t worth using him.

From what I can see that’s now 8 wins in 9 - our test championship record is 9 wins from 21 so did we only win 1 out of the previous 12?!

Yep! Skittled India for 78 at Headingley in August 2021 and won easily. That was it.

Didn't win any of the 8 games in Australia and West Indies, and we lost the other two Tests to India in 2021. Good job they flounced off to play IPL and made up some bullshit about Covid because we'd have lost the final Test had it been played when it should have been.

On Jacks - Root ended up bowling 31 overs. That shouldn't happen if we have a second spinner in the team and we shouldn't be carrying a third who doesn't justify a place with the bat.

Time for some absolutely ridiculous numbers:

I guess there is an element of the others learning their craft/finding their feet in international cricket too, but Jimmy's figures over the 12 year period are remarkable.

Remember when we left him out of a tour and took Matt Fisher and Craig Overton instead?

Good times.

Rightly has his place as simply the greatest English bowler of all time. Broad isn't that far behind.

Going to be one hell of a hole in our attack to fill when those two hang their boots up.

Problem with Broad is he's a fucking arsehole.

Anderson and Jacks out, Foakes and Ahmed in. The picking of the latter seems a bit contrived particularly as he sees himself as a batsman, but nothing to lose in giving him a go in the sub continent with the series won I guess.

Looks like it's Leicestershire's first Test player since 2000 with Darren Maddy. James Taylor and Stuart Broad had left by the time they debuted, and Paul Nixon never played a Test.

Puts Derbyshire bottom of the league with Dominic Cork (2002) and Glamorgan next with Simon Jones (2005).

Surprised Gloucestershire aren't on that list. No doubt I am missing someone really obvious.

That's more recent than I expected! Dont think he is getting another test cap any time soon.

It just looked like it brushed at full speed but clearly not. Looks like we have a seventh wicket now.

Edit: yep, cracking ball by rehan there.
