The 2015/2016 Summer Improvement Thread

I tend to agree. As a slight aside, I think our crowds have been pretty good this season actually - there were some (understandable) nerves on Saturday but overall, the crowd has stuck with the side this season. There has been a lot more patience shown than I would have predicted so fair play to the support for that. At times, the South Bank in particular has been brilliant.

I think a lot of that has to do with the football being played and I agree with Trev. A regression to a more direct style would (IMO) get the crowd more on edge. I've thoroughly enjoyed being in the SB for the first time in a while and I think that reverberates around the ground.

I think three good signings (CM, ACM, LW) and we should be right up there next season.

My wishlist if we could get them:

Dele Ali (ACM) on loan
Chalobah (CM) Buy
Michail Antonio (LW) Buy or Roland Aarons loan (LW)

Of course it is a wish list and highly unlikely we could get them all but that's who I would like.

Couldn't agree more, you'll always get the odd one or two who are generally never satisfied but on the whole this seasons support as been excellent.

Yes indeed. Although you could argue we spent too long looking for the striker we so badly needed. We probably need to get a slightly better balance of patient recruitment and decisive action in the transfer market.

For example, who knows where we could have been if Afobe was in our side from August?

Afobe needed to prove himself at MK Dons after his injury problems I think, it would've been quite a risk if we'd gone for him in the summer.

Part of the problem was that we didn't react quick enough to Fulham completely skewing the market by paying so much money for McCormack, we'll be better prepared this summer.

A few players I'd like to see us have a look at:

Jacob Butterfield (CM) Huddersfield
Craig Sibbald (ACM) Falkirk
Harry Bunn (LW) Huddersfield
Jota (LW/RW) Brentford
Massimo Luongo (CM) Swindon
Michail Antonio (LW) Forest
James Tarkowski (CB) Brentford

Alli is a good shout, though I imagine he will go to MK Dons if they get promoted.

Would we be wary of signing another young Chelsea midfielder?

Chalobah's been good for Reading after a few uninspiring spells after his breakout with Watford.

He's probably going to need a permanent move this summer as he's not getting into the Chelsea squad.

I'm not sure we are able to get players from Brentford or Forest at the moment. Wage wise we aren't going to be blowing them out of the water and financially neither side need to sell. I suppose with Brentford we have size of club on our side, so a lot would depend on the fallout from Warburton leaving.

Forest will lose Antonio this summer IMO. The embargo will fuck them.

As for Brentford. All due respect to the bees but... Weem Wolves ay we. They lost a few of their best players after promotion to bigger clubs, could easily see the same happening next season.

Which counts for diddly squat.

Actually no it doesn't, providing the club is showing ambition we will always be one of the bigger draws in the Championship and providing there isn't a massive disparity in wages on offer they will more often than not choose to join Wolves over the likes of Brentford etc.

Was he actually for sale last summer? If so, why did no one else buy him?

Wasted our time with Sagbo and Graham - it was like Harewood revisited

Think I'd rather have Williams, to be honest. Bit more edge about him and he's never had the anonymous seasons Chalobah has. Admitting, of course, Chal is a few years his junior.

Wouldn't be unhappy with either.

EDIT: Chalobah isn't seriously still just 19!? Seems like he's been around forever.

Rohan Ince at BHA would be another option if we're going in for that type of midfielder. Or Bridcutt at Sunderland, I know he's been shite in the Prem but he was outstanding at this level.

I don't like Bridcutt at all but didn't see much of him at Brighton. Probably on his way out at Sunderland so could be cheap-ish.

Ince has been linked with Liverpool.

I quite like Bridcutt, it might be that he isn't quite up to the Premier League but equally I don't think he's been helped by Sunderland having the slowest midfield in the world. Depends how we go though, I wouldn't want to pair him and K-Mac in a two. You'd still have the issue of absolutely no goal threat from that area which isn't really on.

I'd take a look at Emyr Huws. He's been injured a lot this season but was supposedly good when fit and was excellent for Birmingham. Should be available if Wigan go down.

Huws was on my list last year, we could probably do a season's loan for him if they get relegated. They'll just want to get rid of everything they can with much reduced support from Whelan and likely to be operating on sub 8k crowds at least to start with.
