Summer 2026 Transfer Window Thread

Authority and accountability must sit together. If he had the job title and the salary, then he also carries the responsibility for the decisions and their consequences.

That’s what Jeff wanted people to think. Hopefully let Jackson take the blame for recruitment rather than him even when he let MJ and his team have zero input in any signings. Can’t attribute any accountability when more senior members pull rank and go rogue.

If Jackson genuinely had zero input in any signings then that’s even worse. What exactly is the point of a Director of Recruitment if the manager and are just bypassing the recruitment department entirely?

Either he had influence and shares responsibility for the window, or the role itself is a complete sham. Neither reflects well on Jackson.

I guess the point is that they're a convenient fall guy/patsy for when things inevitably went tits up... plenty would swallow that bullshit.

And I don't mean just last summer... we've had plenty of useful idiots for the past several transfer windows.

What was he supposed to do other than quit? He was still getting paid and doubt he wanted to be without work and now it’s common knowledge he had no input in the summer due to Jeff, Teti and Vitor so he’s got a free pass. If Nathan lets him in the summer he’s got to prove himself very quickly.

One thing i would say is everyone knows we wanted Harry Wilson and Brooks from
Bournemouth. Some of the other players i’ve been told we wanted would have good signings too which is promising but that doesn’t mean it’s going to go well in the summer.

So MJ was responsible for us wanting the good players we didn't get, but had nothing to do with the shit players we did get?

This is like how it's RPS's influence when we win, but all down to RE when we lose.

But you know who bought them, we specifically employed the living dead to do it outside of daylight hours

If he truly had no power to influence them, then the right thing to do would have been to walk away.

As it stands he kept the title, the salary and the position, so responsibility has to come with that.

I don’t understand why he’s being given a clean slate.

Depends on your situation, not many people walk away from a highly paid job when the problems caused weren't theirs. Moral compass only goes so far.

I’m not saying many people would walk away. Most wouldn’t. But staying in the role while distancing yourself from the consequences doesn’t remove the responsibility that comes with the job title.

I’m not being “deliberately obtuse” or “deliberately misunderstanding” TT and YW, and I resent the implication, i simply have a different view on how responsibility works than you do.

You're arguing circumstance, I am arguing responsibility.

Authority and accountability sit together.

Sorry just don't agree, tbf he has had some flak from fans. I'm not sure what you do if your bosses don't give you any say.

He knew what his job was at that point, it wasn't to buy players. Forget the semantics of a job title.

In fact everyone knows who bought those players.

Now it seems he might actually have a say so we'll see how he does and judge him on that. Not on what other people quite obviously did.

The strange moral high ground where he quits because we signed David Møller Wolfe (which he had no input on) rather than a competent left back who is better than Hugo Bueno does not exist.

It was Deutsch who said you were being deliberately obtuse, not either of us. I'm done with this, those who've posted long enough on here know where it ends up and it's not worth it. Enjoy what's left of your evening of fishing

The set up last summer had Teti front and centre and was the Hobbs replacement

Fosun have restructured their football operations, with sporting director Matt Hobbs replaced by Domenico Teti as the rebranded director of professional football.

Teti was essentially Jackson's boss. when he buggered off Jackson got promoted.

He was part of the recruitment team last summer but ultimately decisions were made by Teti, Vitor and Jorge with Jeff marking the results on a scale of 8 - 10 out of 10.
So some responsibility as he was in the same room when the thumbs up was given to sign Jackson and co.

As of January Jackson was in charge of the transfer strategy with Rob trying to have input whilst Shi Jnr nodded along and signed off on the deals.
