Summer 2026: Stay or Go

I know there's no chance Edwards will go even if we lose every game for the rest of the season (we won't) so I'm forcing myself to back him. I do think he's a decent guy and the whole homecoming thing was overblown but I do think he cares about Wolves.

I'll want to see some kind of a footballing identity from day one of pre-season though.

Other than play a few more games, be about 10 by the end of the season, I don’t think Dibling did more at Southampton than he has and he went for £39m and slightly older. That does look an overpayment at the moment, but demonstrates what teams will lay out for someone with that pedigree
Well I think this makes it even more unlikely, as there’s recent proof that it’s not a great strategy.

I heard his name a lot, but was he actually any good - no idea. Haven’t seen him play once for Everton. But they had a spell where all of Grealish, Ndiaye, KDH and Alcaraz were all unavailable and he still wasn’t really getting a look in and a lad from the academy was getting more of a go. They’ve now got George from Chelsea and he’s getting more minutes. So is he just not that good, or will they have to wait 3 more years for him to finally come good like Fabio,,, (yeah, still shit). Was anyone else queuing for Dibling last year? Or was it just Everton willing to throw that money around.

As I said, I can’t compare as I don’t know how good he is, but with that deal being a bit of failure (early days admittedly) I feel it could easily be argued the other way.

It depends on whether we're serious about the 'we will be a PL team in August 27' shit.

He needs to show that he's capable before we pin our colours to him on the back of a statement like that. He hasn't shown anything close to that so far but he's had a good break, loads of time to work on the training ground and not that many players off on international duty so I expect him to show something now.

If he doesn't I'll be calling for a replacement as soon as the final whistle goes against Burnley.

I'm not convinced we're going to get the fees we're going to get the fees we want for João or Andre to be honest.

Not sure I really want us to keep Andre tbh. He downed tools for more than half a season in the Prem, dread to think what he'd do in the league below.

With Sa likely to leave I would not trust any of the other two GKs. Neither have shown they would be a top 10 goalie in the league below based on their last 3-4 seasons.

Would argue there are at least 10 keepers in the league below already better than them and that is without watching a massive amount but the odd games so potentially more. Sa has massively improved recently but a stated was shocking earlier in the season so its a position that needs immediate fixing plus a longer plan too.

Pierce Charles is someone I would have a look at for example as the next keeper potentially ready to make a big leap with a team change I would suggest.

I think out of Mosquera, Beueno, Toti and Krejci, only Krejci is good enough to play in a back 2 and he won`t be here. Sadly, I think Johnstone will be our No. 1. We know our better players will be off and it would be nice to shift all of our dross, but don`t reckon we will. Edwards has 7 games left to experiment a bit with the right-back position, hope he does. Pretty confident we won`t be rebuilding for the Premiership come the end of next season.

Sa will almost certainly be off, personally I'd be happy for him to be here next season if its an option, he'd probably the best keeper in the division.
Johnstone needs to go, doesnt want to be here, is a poor keeper, a sick note and heart of a pea.
I'd be happy enough with Rodrigo and Hugo evem with their weaknesses. We neef a functioning RB but wouldnt be surprised to see Tchatchoua🫣 still here. Mosquera, Santi and Toti are all good enough for the Championship, its possible the first 2 will go abroad. Krejci, I dont think its nailed on he'll go, will someone offer enough to take him?
Midfield is a real worry for me, I don't want ro see us starting all of Doyle, Bouba and Bellegarde, hopefully we have a couple lined up.
Armstrong will be fine. Although he's striker version of Tchatchoua, Arokodare will be ok.
Mane I think will still be here. After a flying start to his first team career, his form has nose dived for various reasons. Still a terrific prospect just dont think a bigger team will offer enough money.

God no...stinking attitude and just a general weirdo.

Edwards needs to ensure the spirit and mentality of the squad is improved massively to give us any kind of chance of a decent rebuild, so any residual cunts need to be jettisoned

He's made him captain and continues to defend JSL even after he's left the club so doesn't augur well

He's a decent keeper, Im ok putting up with his antics for that. As I said Johnstone is a big no for me and Bentley I just dont care what happens. If we can get a good new keeper thats great.

I like Patterson for the championship.

Sunderland replaced him in the PL and he is now on loan at Millwall.

Also wouldn't be surprised if we tried (and failed) to get Trafford on loan.

Copied DW's list and added my own thoughts. It's clear that we have a LOT of work to do when the window opens.

José Sa: nah - had enough of him. Just not consistent enough - great when he wants to be, a liability far too often, Go.

Matt Doherty: nah, we need to be moving on and I don't believe he offers anywhere near enough. Go.

Hugo Bueno: There seem to be a lot of people who rate Hugo which I don't really get, because he's not really very good. I think we can get money for him, and I also think we can do better than him. Go.

Santi Bueno: Not many players have actually improved during this wretched campaign, but I like Santi's attitude and I think he's been our best defender. Stay.

David Moller Wolfe: I really haven't seen much of him at all. Speaks volumes that he's rarely seen when the squad is this bad, but I don't feel that I can comment on his ability TBH. Go.

André: he's not staying, although it would be incredible if he did. Should give us a decent windfall. Go.

Joao Gomes: Same as Andre - I feel that we need to get this area of the squad sorted early as a priority. Go.

Adam Armstrong: I think he's going to do well for us. I like his attitude and he was obviously brought it with next season in mind anyway. Stay.

Hwang Hee-Chan: he's bloody awful. Go.

Tolu Arokodare: In all honesty, I'm perplexed as to the levels of criticism he's received, both on here and in other areas of our fan base. He's no world beater but I think he's alright and should contribute a lot next season. Stay.

Yerson Mosquera: Does my head in. Being a loose cannon isn't as much of an asset as some people seem to think. Sick of the uncertainty he brings on the pitch. Go.

Pedro Lima: No idea - if he can't get on the pitch next season, it's not a good sign, is it? I reckon he'll go off on loan again. Go.

Rodrigo Gomes: I think we'll be able to see a lot more from him next season, and I think he'll get plenty of goals/assists if played further forward. Stay.

Toti Gomes: I think he's better than Mosquera and although I would want to move him on if we were still in the PL, we're not going to be in the PL and he's one of the few with a decent attitude. Stay.

Dan Bentley: no point having a keeper in the squad who can't save anything. Go.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde: Not consistent enough but I would hope he'd have a bit more about him in the Championship. A strange player but I think I'd stick with him. Stay.

Sam Johnstone: Although I don't disagree, the prospect of him being our #1 isn't something that fills me with hope. He's not very good - we really do need a new, dependable #1, and SJ isn't that. Go.

Mateus Mané: a full season in the Championship will make him a much better player - we shouldn't be looking to cash in on him, we need to build around him. Hopefully his head won't be turned and he'll give us a year. Stay

Ladislav Krejci: It would be great to keep him - he could and probably should be our captain, but I don't think he'll stay sadly. Go.

Jackson Tchatchoua: He's going to stay, because anyone with eyes would steer well clear of him. No mean feat to be the worst full back in this squad, when we have Hoever and Doherty here as well. He's atrocious. I wouldn't trust him to serve the beans in the staff canteen without missing everyone's plates. Please Go.

Angel Gomes: I thought he looked really good at Brentford, but we've not seen enough of that so far. Clearly has ability and for the amount he'd cost, I'd like to keep him - if he keeps that performance level for the rest of the season. Jury is still out but let's be positive. Stay.

Sasa Kalajdzic: I can't see him playing for us again, which is a shame because he's a good guy with clear ability but I think he'll be off in the summer. Go.

Ki-Jana Hoever: Are we ever going to get rid of this guy? Go.

Marshall Munetsi: Rubbish - he won't be back. Go.

Fer Lopez: A terrible signing - if he 'wasn't suited' to the PL, what chance is there of him playing for us in the Championship? About as much chance of me playing for us in the Championship. Go.

Tawanda Chirewa: Forgot about him. Go.

Boubacar Traoré: I actually quite like him but I don't think he'll come back. Go.

Tommy Doyle: He's not good enough for the PL but I think he would do okay in the level below, so I'm happy to have him back. Stay.

Nasser Djiga: Absolutely no idea why we signed him - he looks appalling. Just get rid. Go.

L'Equipe have 'released' a lot of players salaries this morning and there have already been proven inaccuracies in their reporting so I'd take that number with a pinch of salt.

Either way, it's a waste of money at a quarter of that if he never had any intention of playing for us in the Championship. That's the real issue, they could've signed nobody in that position and it wouldn't have made a difference.

I’d prefer Angel to Doyle who can’t get a start at the moment in a very average Blues side.

I think our chances of keeping Krejci depend on how he does in the World Cup. If he has a good tournament there’s every chance we will get offers we can’t refuse.

Reading through this thread confirms how badly we’ve recruited in recent years. The only players everyone seems to want to keep are André and Joao Gomes who are clearly too good for the Championship. For everyone else there are at least as many reasons to want to get rid rather than stay. The one player I really don’t want starting that we probably couldn’t even give away is Johnstone.
