Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Philips said that in the recent E&S article her wrote (or pretty much said that). It kinda aligns with Shi's long ago comments re stadium redevelopment, and the delays to that because investing in the first team is the priority.

I therefore think it has potential that we see some investment over the summer.

I agree with Paddy though, for those renewing it is more likely to be external factors influencing their decision.

I'm not so sure.

Undoubtably external factors have an effect but if the feel good factor is there (and we had it in spades not that long ago) fans find the money somehow. The breakdown in communication, trust and goodwill between the club/board/owners and the fans means that even those that can afford it are potentially going to give it a miss.

Liverpool had one of the most deprived areas of the country in the Thatcher years but it didn't stop about 40,000 travelling every time they got to a European Cup final. Our fans would do the same.

The stadium thing is bollocks really. The Steve Bull is a disgrace of a stand now, the funds they'd have to put in to do that are not included in the calculations for FFP so it's got nothing to do with funds for transfers.

Fosun have decided not to inject any external funding for transfers which is entirely their parogative but the stadium is one area that the owners are going to have to put their hands in their pockets for, maintaining the stadium is part and parcel of being an owner and at the moment one stand in particular is not fit for purpose. I get theyre business people but not everything attached to owning a football club can be about a quick ROI.

Time for all concerned to move on. Been a bargain for us over the years.

Slow handicap for Lambert who nearly ensured we lost him after a year for what would have been zero profit at best. 'I know what Romain can do' <Plays Edwards for 90 minutes>

I guess Toti is the successor to Saiss in terms of the squad.

We better drop Saiss now (if he's not injured) so we can get used to him not being around.

What do you reckon the team would have been the following season with Lambert. I mean we wouldn't have got Boly, Neves and Jota for a start. Guess we may have signed Ruddy, Douglas and Bennett anyway. Edwards would have still been in the squad though I reckon, it felt like we would never get rid of him at that point

Grant Hanley would have signed

I'm sure we were in for him, but the chatter was that he didn't want to leave Villa at the time. Also most of this board though he was absolutely shit, think only Fred rated him

We were in the Premier League at that point - The January window IIRC.
Yep.

He was at Bristol City when we had Lambert. Then summer 2017 went to Swansea who were PL, so we wouldn't have got him.

It's an easy line to draw but I wonder if Saiss was approached at AFCON (nothing iffy about that, he's perfectly entitled to talk to foreign clubs with six months left on his deal). There's talk of a big contract on the table from a Saudi club. Then having accepted the move, his head's not quite been at it since - his form has definitely dropped off a cliff.

He's 32 now, can go and play there for a couple of years and pick up the money. It won't affect him getting in Morocco's World Cup squad and he might well finish with international football after that anyway.

Edwards was banned for Lambert's first game at Preston and went off with concussion at home to Villa with about half an hour to go.

Other than that he played literally every minute of every game under Lambert. 100% he'd have still been a key player.

Lambert was a fan of Jordan Hugill too. Lovely.

Pie in the sky, but we'd have probably have made the Champions League places THIS season if we'd have signed Abraham last summer.

We were after Tammy Abraham iirc?
I think he was our top target summer we signed Cutrone. I was told by someone a year or two ago that we had the deal lined up (six months after we had tried to get him on loan and he chose to stay at Villa for rest of that season) but lampard got the chelsea job and wanted to keep him

Looks like he's on his way then, probably for the best. Been terrific for us, mostly been quality, unfairly criticised at times imo, but seems to have deteriorated in the last few months. Hope he gets a good gig.
