Summer 2022 Transfer Window

One thing I will say. They may not need to sell him for 15m as they feel he will be worth more to them keeping him for another year. Whereas they think the 20m will offset that and that so would do a deal at that point.

The “negotiate a deal in their last 6 months” is a massive red herring which you see a lot with players going in to their last year. Teams will want players immediately not waiting 6 months when circumstances for all parties may have changed. The player also might not wanting to tie himself down to something untill everyone’s positions are clear.

Moutinho could have negotiated a deal 6 months ago, made fuck all difference, same with Marcal. Traore will be able to negotiate a deal with La Liga in 4 months. Will make fuck all difference too.

Hardly anyone wanted Marcal and Moutinho wanted to stay here. I'd imagine Traore will sign with someone before his contract ends here.

Possible that Donck going has legs then? (About the only thing he has, etc etc)

From what I've seen of PSG I guess he'd be a backup for Marquinhos - probably not the worst life, I guess

We're likely to see ronan go, cundle go on loan. Still expecting traore to go imo. Wouldn't mind seeing podence go personally. Boly may also go too?

So, Adama, Hwang, Donk out. Cundle, Ronan loan. Traore, Sasa, Ramos in then.

You’re missing my point. Being able to “legally” negotiate a deal in January isn’t a factor in the current negotiations. Isn’t really a factor in January either. So can’t be used in the leverage debate.

I suppose it depends on whether the player is still as committed knowing their future lies elsewhere. The end result is still the same though.

No one really signs a deal in January so your event never happens. Not to a decent club/league anyway. Too much risk to both parties.

He knows his future lies elsewhere already if he isn’t signing a new deal…

And playing like shit for a year or training with the kids doesn’t tend to be a successful way of earning yourself a better deal elsewhere.

I'm saying I don't believe him. He has incentive to lie which is enough for me. Romano has no incentive to lie, he has said we are interested and hasn't mentioned another team.
What will TSB think of that

Of course not, the factor is we want to sign x player. If you don't accept this we'll just sign him for free when his contract ends. I'd use something like "We can offer miles better terms with a signing on bonus that rivals the fee we were going to give you and a more attractive league who do you think he's going to choose?"

It’s irrelevant what he wants, he’s got a contract for 12 months. We aren’t negotiating with him.

No use to us for “free” in 12 months when we needed a striker 2 months ago.

No he's got a contract for 9 months.

No team wants to lose a valuable asset. This is even more prevalent when they get absolutely no compensation, this gives the buyer leverage.

For the same reason, we'd let Adama go if we got a semi decent bid for him. £5m plus and he'd be gone.

Your arguing points I haven’t made. I’m just said the “can negotiate in January” makes no difference to their desire to sell.

What does make a difference is the potential they lose a player for free. But at 15m they may rather a year of his 25+ goal contributions with the possibility (regardless of how small it might be) of him resigning, rather than the cash in the bank. Whereas at 20m they may think that covers the goal contributions on another couple of players.
