Stats and Analysis Thread

In fairness, at least looking at stats, Chelsea should have absolutely thumped Palace. They had a higher xg than against us and scored 1 vs 6.

Oh and Newcastle have been awful in all 3 so far so we should absolutely be targeting a win

Didn't think that they were great yesterday against Spurs, but they have individual players who can turn a game in their favour. And they'll have Scharr back for our game, who is a better defender than anyone they've been playing there since his red card. We could beat them, but I wouldn't expect it.

Oh I’d never expect us to win 😆 but with the fixtures after it I think it’s one we kind of need to

Semi interesting read in the (lack of) impact from stats and analysis on football. The article improves once you get past the initial setup of the article (which takes up 8 paragraphs 🤣)

Tl/dr - it's helped a bit in scouting and not much else.
That's a really good read. It's basically too hard to quantify and if you do all of those variables will have changed by the next game.

Basically, get off your fucking iPad and look at the game Gaz

Never lost an aerial battle though...

I don't understand some of those. How can he have 25 recoveries, if he's only won 10 tackles and made 2 interceptions? Are there ways to recover possession that I can't think of?

Maybe retrieving a mis-placed pass before it went out of play or to an opponent? Otherwise I am as stumped as you are.

I think a recovery also includes covering an exposed position. I.e. doc gets beaten but someone else covers him.

In other words recovering the defensive shape...or something
