They have to address keeper in January. They can't look at the position and stats around it and think it's anywhere near good enough.

Just won’t happen though unless Sa leaves for a decent amount.

4 CMs?

Sa/Johnstone
Semedo Bueno Dawson Toti
Gomes Lemina
Guedes Cunha RAN
JSL
The fact there’s such a wide variation of potential starting 11’s shows you how far from a balanced & reliable side we are right now.

You want Andre in there because he’s a highly rated Brazilian international, but you can’t play all of Andre, Doyle, Gomes & Lemina and Gaz doesn’t seem to know how to use him (Andre). Forbs seems more of an impact player than someone who can start and play more than 50 minutes - so I’d go with Guedes, mental as that suggestion would have been at the start of the season. Let him push up alongside JSL when he can & that will allow Cunha & RAN to pick the ball up deeper and run with it - something they’re both comfortable with.

I quite like Doyle but he’s a tad powderpuff and I think Lemina/Gomes with their physicality and running is the way to go here.

We’re gonna fucking win and he’s going to keep his fucking job.
This is correct. It won't even be a good, convincing, routine win. It'll be 2/3 - 1, but they'll be in the game and the manager will say it's a turning point, then he'll get 2 points in the four games after the international break and we'll go down.

Probably where I am with the current situation, he’ll take us down and still be in place in the Championship.

I'd shoehorn Boubacar Traore in there, he's got all summer to get over it.

This one is going to be difficult. Southampton keep the ball better than Palace and they will absolutely cut through us if we defend like we have for most of the season. This isn't a game for gungho. This is a game for keeping it tight and making the most of our chances as and when they come.

Not really sure why much of the discussion is about the keeper situation when it is clearly obvious either are on a hiding to nothing behind a really rocky defence. I do hope this is the end of RAN being given licence to wander all over the pitch again.

You can't play Gomes and Lemina together IMO. They both want to do the same thing and wander forwards. Lemina needs to sit and be told not to go forward if it happens, but he's struggled with playing out from the back too and giving the ball away, so I'm not sure he can do it reliably and consistently enough compared to Andre. Who is much better receiving the ball in tight spaces than anyone else on the team and has a decent pass on him.

Got to be Gomes/Andre for me.

The two wide players you may as well just draw them out of a tombola for all the difference it'll make. Personally I'd like to see Forbs and R.Gomes given a decent go. But the jury is out on both of them and do you want to be gambling on them both in a must win game?

Can you play Cunha left and Doyle behind Larsen? Or do you push RAN further forward again and rotate the right hand wide player during the game? I think that's what I'd prefer, and start with R. Gomes and use Forbs off the bench with his pace.

Whoever plays they're going to need to be able to play a decently high press as Southampton like to piss about with it and keep possession in their own half. I think R.Gomes will suit that better than Forbs or Sarabia due to his defensive history at wing-back.

Doyle in the 10 would be awful, unsure why people have started suggesting it?
I'm sure he's played there before for Sheff Utd. It'd have to be slightly deeper than normal and try and find space between the lines but it could work if you can get him on the ball regularly there.

Maybe if it was Guedes/Forbs running in behind? Don't the others prefer picking up the ball and running with it, kinda nullifying Doyle's main thing?

That was our midfield for most of last season, especially when we were doing well.
They've got to have been told to go wandering up field. Having said that, I'd like Andre in and as Gary doesn't seem to be able to find a way to play all 3, one will have to dropped.
I prefer RAN attacking from deep but Gary clearly doesn't rate either Forbs or young Gomes so I'd play him wide up front.

RAN’s decision making up front on Saturday was woeful. Twice we were breaking and he had options either side but he waited and waited and both times lost possession. I’m far from convinced he’s a good option playing further forward, his best work is breaking from deep so long as he isn’t so greedy.

I agree but I've run out of options that can play there that GON will go with.

RAN has become easy to defend against.

He needs to adapt and use the ball much better, he keeps trying to do too much.

He’s got 3 goals, 2 assists in 10 games. Arguably should have more with a few chances he’s missed and was unlucky with his shot at Villa. He seems to be the most misunderstood player we have. It’s quite often that he’s asked to do too many things because of his attributes and that actually can go against him. He was poor on Saturday, constantly made the wrong decision in the final third but that bit of his game has been improving over the last year.

Brilliantly removed any real challenge to his spot. Kid can drift if he wants, Doc and Co are not taking his spot for more than 1 game
