Southampton (A) 13.04.2019

I think I agree. It's not working out, and it's unlikely it will work out.

What this game does show is our small squad might be good in some ways, but in games like this (and at the end of last season too) it's an issue. We need at least 5 more players imo.

Don’t think there’s anything wrong with the size of the squad it’s just at this stage of our evolution we lack depth.

Look at the bench for today’s game. There isn’t really anyone who you expect to come on and make a massive difference. All it does is weaken us.

7th is not out of the question. We have 3 winnable home games (albeit, we will have to play much better than that). If we manage to not lose at Watford we've got a very decent shot at it, still.

Costa had about 5mins to do what exactly?
Traore came on and did what he does a few times and should never be allowed in our penalty area.
MGW.. did he touch the ball at all.?

Well the point with Costa is that we don't trust him to bring him on for more than 5 minutes.

When is the last time our subs really made an impact in a positive sense? I really can't think of it off the top of my head.

Yep, the back 3 have been poor all over. Coady's worst game in a Wolves shirt along with Jonny's. I think Nuno had the team wrong today, I understand why he picked the team he did but Raul, Jota, Moutinho, Jonny and Doc look shattered physically. Bennett should've played at the back too.

But hindsight's a wonderful thing.

It is. I think Nuno was right to give the players the opportunity. Depending on how this week goes of course, I think Vinagre and Bennett will be pushing for starts for sure.

That's the same point though isn't it? We need more players so that we can change a game / not start the same 10 all the time.

I read your post as if you were questioning the size (as in number of bodies) of the squad. Our problem is that Traore, Costa, Cav, MGW are a massive step down from the first 11. We need 5 new players absolutely. But we were never going to be able to do that until the summer anyway. If we don’t get Europe then Cav, Costa, Traore loaned or sold and then upgrades in these spots. Plus upgrades at the other spots such as WB, CB and poss CM

Whether we make it or not, I expect a very busy summer. Possibly 7 in 4 out.

That's why not making Europe would be a blessing. Bin the 3 wingers and sign a RCB, a CM, a young RWB and 2 forwards at least one of whom is versatile which gives Nuno a first team squad of 18 outfield players as he did this at the start of this season, but 5 upgrades on this year.

Unless players actively want to leave there’s only really Cav, Costa, Traore who can go (if we ignore the people already away from the club). All the others are either integral members or youngsters.

I agree it would be a blessing. I don’t want to turn it down as you can’t pick and choose success. But it really wouldn’t be the end of the world. We’re trying to sprint before we before we’ve really mastered jogging at this level.

3 straight depressing weekends regarding football, as said break come at the right time what happened last week can’t just be forgotten about and will take some time to get over for these players and the performance today showed it. We actually played some good stuff in patches but were an absolute car crash at the back. All 3 goals highly avoidable.
Really hoping the season doesn’t fizzle out.
