Societal collapse?

The simple answer to that one is that a campaign is arranged to make it extremely clear that absolutely everybody should press the red button and the blue button is the only dangerous one. There is being moral and pressing blue, but it is also stupid as it is the only option with personal risk.

Sorry but, if guilty, 15 years minimum, no parole. More deterrent. Build more prisons. Protect furure victims.

You aren't protecting fuck all with reactive measures like sentences or building prisons for after the crime.

Educating men not to rape is what's going to reduce rape and sexual violence.

2.8% - 4.6% of reported rapes went to court last year.

Many victims have to wait on average 12 months before court. Many, much longer.

So I'd hold on building the new prisons unless we're going to have root and branch reform of the justice system, police responses to rape and more.

Education and challenging attitudes could prevent the rape.

The rape is the mid point of the timeline

The court case and sentencing is at the end of the judicial process. Victims live with it forever.

Why are you so obsessed with only the end?

Isn't the issue there that you incentivise rapists to kill their victims as the punishments becomes essentially equal, so removing the main witness makes sense?
Possibly, unless you increase the punishment for murder as well, maybe up to capital punishment. But we've had this discussion before so not much point in the back and forth really. Nothing will change anyway until crime starts to affect those in charge.

No dog in this fight but educating men not to rape suggests they don't know it's wrong to start with - is that really where we are in 2026?

Of course they know it's wrong, they just don't give a fuck because they know that in 98.5% of cases they'll get away with it, and then those that are imprisoned are out in less than 2 years

When you get the likes of Andrew Tate and his associates pushing the idea that women are there to serve men, and even the adjacent tradwife movement, its not surprising that theres a minority of young men who regard women as property. Even more mainstream right wingers talk about how the western world is being 'outbred' and insinuating that women choosing to, shock horror, have careers, is part of the problem.

Its all getting a bit handmaids tale.....

Honestly, its not even so bad in the UK. Germany is an absolute fucking joke when it comes to rape conviction and sentencing - like this one that took 2 mins to find. Suspended sentence for gangraping a child.
https://www.zeit.de/news/2022-04/21/bewaehrungsstrafen-nach-vergewaltigung-einer-15-jaehrigen

There's another where another youth raped a I think 11 year old and the female jusge sentenced him to a suspended one because it would otherwise ruin his life.

Women and children are simply not very important apparantly

A follow on from this gang rape above - the perps were between the ages of 16-20 at the time and they gang raped the 15 year old victim several times. 8 got a suspended sentence and spent 0 days in prison. One got 2 years and 5 months, another was found not guilty. Now a 20 year old woman who insulted one of the rapists online has been sentenced to several days prison time. Make THAT make sense.

How the fuck must women and girls feel when even when caught the rapists are given a gentle pat on the wrist and another woman is punished for calling one of them a "raping pig"?

Seems a bit harsh to say the least. For a start it wouldn't be libel in this country unless she called the acquited man a raping pig. Truth is the defence of libel actions.

I am struggling to understand a criminal liability (different legal system in Europe obviously). The case is over when she makes the statement so it can't be contempt of court unless the perpetrators were subject to an ongoing court order protecting their identities, which seems unlikely as they were over 16 at the time of the offence.

German Law regarding "personal honour" (Article 185 of the penal code) allows for penalties for insults, the woman's sentence was a form of youth detention known as Freizeitarrest (weekend arrest).
