Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

You're suggesting Tavernier will play the Sam Ricketts role? Much needed experience and leadership.

Tavernier is also two years older than Ricketts (almost to the day) was when he signed.

It's a terrible idea.
He *could* be that guy. Might not be, but the intention is right.

I saw someone on social media having a go at someone who said it would be a shit signing by comparing him to Irwin. I mean levels! When it was announced he was leaving Rangers I was watching SSN who said that despite the stats the fans have never really taken to him. If we were going to sign him it should have been from Newcastle after he came up with us on loan at Brentford.

I absolutely agree that we need leaders in our squad. Not one, but several - I can't recall a more rudderless squad devoid of professionalism or leadership like this before. We've been blessed with having several natural leaders when we were promoted under Nuno but there's not a single individual currently here capable of bestowing the pride, professionalism or footballing nous that's needed in a squad.

Tavernier isn't that player BTW - but we need that sort of character urgently, and we need more than 1 player to possess these qualities

I wouldn't trust a single one of this rabble to even lead anyone to the nearest bus stop

If he's good enough is up for question, but Neil did captain Sunderland to promotion

I don't expect all of our signings to be really expensive flair signings and I understand we will need some (more) players that fit the home grown quota but I don't want any more 34 year old right backs that can't defend. Some names that I've thought I personally wouldn't mind are Patterson from Sunderland, Ross Barkley (fitness permitting,) Adam Webster. I remember being one of the ones sticking up for the Bennett signing at the time with Jinky but with these types of signing, they need to be carefully chosen otherwise you just end up with loads of old players on big money relative to the level and end up stuck.

It started to go to shit when Nuno was still here and in hindsight being sidelined with the The Summer of Fabio
I think 'going to shit' is a bit harsh, definately we had a dip but at the time I felt it was salvageable, at that point never saw us getting worse year on year.
Its fucking criminal negligence imo.
