Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

The Guardian really likes disagreeing with this forum 😂

Rob Edwards was left to rue Tolu Arokodare’s missed penalty against Crystal Palace as Wolves went down to Evann Guessand’s late winner. The Nigeria striker scored 20 goals for Genk in Belgium last season but has struggled to settle at Molineux since arriving for £23m. He caused Crystal Palace plenty of problems at Selhurst Park and looks like the kind of striker who could thrive in the Championship if he is still around next season, even if his spot-kick technique needs to be improved. “I’m never going to come out and criticise him for missing a penalty,” said Edwards. “Tolu’s our number nine and felt positive over the ball. In that moment, it’s important you don’t change. There can be a number of people who want to take it, but Tolu was designated and wanted to take it at that time.” Ed Aarons

Tolu as designated taker can only be sympathy to pad his stats. There is no other logical reason. His record is shite and his technique was abysmal. A serious team who wasn’t already relegated simply wouldn’t make this decision.

The pen had No disguise, no stutter, no mind games and then if you’ve not got any of that go for power and technique. He just telegraphed where he was going to pass it and then passed it there. Might score it 50% of the time against a L2 keeper, not against a top level keeper. It’s like he’d never taken one before and was hoping for the best. Embarrassing, and I’m still annoyed because 3 points was there for the taking.

Numbers are only technicalities.. like finishing as the 20th best team in England.

Ah come on, you know what he means by saying he is our #9.
A shit ton of stuff to get angry about but him saying a player who plays as our main striker is the number 9 isn't one is it.

It's like getting annoyed if Nuno called Rui our #1 when he had 11 on the back of his shirt

It was meant as a wry jibe rather than in anger, but it still speaks to his poor attention to detail, in the same way as not noticing that his chosen penalty taker has a shite record at taking penalties

And then there are the long throws! Put of all the throws yesterday from Mosquera (and the length was better due to it being drier) we only flicked one on. It's a complete waste of time, we do nothing from it, it takes ages and we lose momentum. Fuck it off or mix it up!
I’m struggling with the long throws. Not only is it pointless because his throws don’t even go that far and we haven’t created any chances from it, but he’s also our best header of the ball I’d say?!

It's also so unoriginal. Other PL teams are doing it so we have to for reasons unknown

He is trying to Stoke his way out of trouble, with the minor flaws of no Rory Delap, the rest of the league have seen the tactic for 20 plus years now, and we don't actually have a team of Pulis mutants.

Apart from that, it is sound tactical thinking.

Yep he’s hit the target with a few and been unlucky, plus had a few others go close.

The biggest issue for me is we still haven’t worked out how far he can throw it so we never win the flick on. We either get caught underneath it or it falls short.
