Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

15th is just two wins off the play offs. That’s the kind of bandwidth our owners, and many fans, will give him for a while.
Different owners of course but last two times we went down:

Dave Jones: 15 games, 19th on 17 points, 11 off 6th (with a game in hand)
Stale Solbakken: 26 games, 18th on 31 points, 9 off 6th (having played a game more)

I don't think he'll last especially long if we're in the bottom half.

I don't see a world where Rob Edwards goes from winning one game (he may pick up another win before the end of the season) from 2/3 of a season to turning a side in to serious promotion winners.

The only parallel really is Mick with Sunderland.

But Mick McCarthy in the mid 2000s was a far better manager than Rob Edwards is in the mid 2020s.

Edwards has done nothing to suggest he is the man to turn us around.

Either so far here, or anywhere else.

Unless circumstances are really bad any season in the second tier we don’t make the top 6 should be considered a poor season. In this scenario we have a lot in our favour regardless how this season has gone.
Here's the thing. Never has a side with so much (in theory) financial muscle been relegated with so much time to plan. Whichever of Forest or West Ham go down with us, will be favourites to win the league, but in all likelihood will only know they are down in May, all but the deluded knew we were in October.

Wrexham and Ipswich if they stay down will continue to spend as will Blues but we have no excuse to do anything other than hit the ground running and if we don't I think they'll be little patience apart from the 'we'll support you ever more' brigade.

Spot on - and if we don't start well then the criticism will be 100% deserved.

Let's see how much we've learned our lesson, and let's see how much the board understand the situation we're entering into.

No-one and I mean no-one is going to merrily write off failing to win home games against the likes of Preston, Bristol City, Charlton, Hull, Swansea, Portsmouth etc if that's what ends up happening.

Reality will hit home very quickly. I know we're not as good as Chelsea (doesn't excuse the boneheaded decisions we made on and off the pitch yesterday) but we're not fucking worse than Bristol City.

We could have learned our lesson I suppose?

But I've seen this summer blockbuster movie for the last four summers and I know exactly how it ends... I've zero faith that they'll get it right this time round as I've so little trust in the people in post.

If we don't get back up within two seasons we are never getting back up would be my view.
Well never is silly isn't it, but that is your window. You get one false start and anything beyond that, well it's the abyss.

15 fucking years in that abyss, just about all of my formative years as a fan...I'll never forget that!

As others have said, we're loaded and the earliest team to obviously be doomed in years, plus Rob Edwards is supposedly an asset at the level below, so no fucking excuses

Yeah, Sheff Wed, Leeds, they're what we could be.

Not bloody Oldham.

We were 8 points off safety when we hired RE. We are now 15 points off.

The eye test might say we look better and have improved, but the table doesn't lie and we're actually worse off.

Let him have the rest of the season because we're down and you've paid stupid money to get him. I'd be looking to bring in someone else in the summer, though. I don't think we bounce back under RE.

I'm no RE supporter, I wouldn't have appointed him and I wouldn't keep him. Being further behind isn't something to judge him by though, that's just basic extrapolation because the squad is shite and in a number of instances has an equally shite attitude.

I would say him choosing to join us is a sign his decision making isn't all that good...

We had an alright January, before then I was saying get rid at the end of the season. Even if we lost every game, I genuinely don't see the point of sacking him before the end - not like we have much hope of staying up, and even knocking together some good results from such a bad squad is a difficult ask for a good manager (and how often do we find those?)

Right now I'd still say just look for someone new in the summer, I don't think he is good enough to get us promoted and unless we can win another game or two will probably be in quite a bad place again which hurts the credibility for the rebuild and makes it important to have a fresh start.

I suppose it depends on how many more poor decisions he makes before now and the end of the season that will determine if he is here at the start of next season.

I'm playing devil's advocates here a little, but i'd seen plenty say we need to go for it more, as in we may as well, we are down anyway.

Then he's getting criticised for "yes, but not like that"

We are a poor team, to have a chance of winning games we need to lockdown for an hour and hope we can sneak a win, just like a bloody L1 team in the cup against a Prem team.
