Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

I'd always assumed Edwards was a buffer coach just to get us through the rest of this season. But that does indicate a level of ambition from owners I don't think is there. And they do seem invested in him. But surely if he starts poorly next season they pull the trigger quick?

He seems to just completely scuff or drag his shot whenever he gets in the position - almost tries to hit it too hard.

Sunderland springs to mind, but plenty of other examples.
Both a rubbish finish and a good finish in here

Is it crazy to think that maaaaybe we can hold on to João next year? If we demand a huge fee and he doesn't ask out.

You don't pay £4m for a buffer. Ridiculous really isn't it?

No chance. His agent was clearly trying to get a move in January.
Yeah fair, just wishful thinking. Think we'd see a lot more of his attacking game at that level, which might then translate if we came back up.

I don't think its about starting poorly. I feel like we'd need to be completely out the playoffs by this time next year before they would give up on him, and feel even then it would need to come with fan pressure as they'd still be trying to give him time presumably.

That would be hovering around 16th/17th this season in the Champ. Would that fly for 30 games from the fan base?

Looking at the Mix briefly and was surprised at how many want him gone by the end of the season at the latest.

We know that Fosun don't tend to heed warning signings going into a new season, if they did then Lage and O'Neil would have been gone before they got to ruin the first half of the following one.

I genuinely think Edwards will do okay with us next season. He won't leave at any point this season.

He's far from perfect - if he was, he wouldn't have taken a job at a side doomed to relegation. And indeed, some of his selections are odd to say the least.

I just have a feeling that we won't do as badly next season as I originally thought we would. Dunno why - maybe I ate something weird.

This post is 100% gut feeling with no real analysis behind it.

Not from here, but I feel it would need to be be properly toxic at the games and don't feel that would happen.

Yep. We’ll definitely give him pre-season and invest in mistakes overseen by him and Jackson based on their golf club mates of mates lens through which they view what’s appropriate for our football ambition. Then we’ll hang on to him till any hope of automatic promotion is gone before changing him for god knows who. None of which has to happen, it’s not a resources question, it’s entirely in our gift and the signs are there right now to anyone who has watched football for a decent amount of time.

And this post is also 100% gut feeling with no real analysis behind it (although why won’t history repeat itself?).

I don’t think we’ll double dip again, I think it’s dependent on how you define doing well. Doing well is getting promoted for me some will say coming top 6 is. Personally if he’s in charge I think scrape the top 6 but won win the play offs.

With the potential transfer budget and Fosun's already stated target of only 1 season outside of the PL then doing well is top 2 or bust.

Unless there is a drastic shift, such as when Jeff listened to people and binned Lambert for Nuno, Rob will start the season but will be under pressure from the off if we have a slow start

I’d take going up via playoff ahead of top 2 tbh. But I’d take top 2 over top 6.

Unless circumstances are really bad any season in the second tier we don’t make the top 6 should be considered a poor season. In this scenario we have a lot in our favour regardless how this season has gone.

My feeling is that Edwards is not the man to lead us back.
Too vanilla, nothing about him is impressive, he reminds me of GON is his demeanour.
My choice would to be go all out for best in class next year, throw money at it and we go again.

We simply can’t stay in that League longer than a season.

For those of you that have forgotten, it is absolutely awful. Shit football, shit referees, shit grounds, shit commentators.

All of it. Shit.

15th is just two wins off the play offs. That’s the kind of bandwidth our owners, and many fans, will give him for a while.
