Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

I was positive about the profiles of our signings as they were advertised at the time. I also said that we needed 7 players and any less would be a disgrace so I wouldn't say that I was 'happy' about our business once the window closed at all.

It's not just about the summer signings though. It's H.Bueno, Hoever & Mosquera coming in and contributing nothing. Agbadou & Munetsi the previous window. Sá deciding (again) that it's too much effort to try and save shots. It's Bellegarde, Doherty & S.Bueno still being part of the squad despite being consistently not good enough.

Tolu & Krejci look quite good actually, I'm not anywhere near giving up on Fer López as well. Arias worries me and I think the other 2 look shite but it's not the worst return actually. It was the situation we were already in which is the problem.
I agree Tolu and especially Krejci look decent.
Lopez looks way out of his depth to me, no-where near given what we paid.
Mosquera I think still might be ok. I haven't given up on Agbadou getting last seasons form back but thats hope more than anything
I'd like to see Wolfe given more games, dont think he's as bad as people say, I expect he'll be fine in the Championship.
Arias is the biggest disappointment, I know he had a long season before arriving and the Premier league can be tough to acclimatise but I've seen very little to impress after a big fanfare.

Is this a criticism? Who doesn't care about what they earn?

Of course it’s not - quite the opposite.

Edwards didn’t come here because he’s “one of our own”, his kids school being round the corner or because he thinks he can keep us up.

He probably came here because we trebled his salary and financially set him up for life.

And I don’t blame him for a second.

But let’s not get it twisted into some sort of fairytale homecoming.

The only positive I'm currently taking from this appointment is that I'm not that invested in Rob Edwards.

He was just another jobbing footballer that I witnessed pass through and out the doors of the club and I don't hold him in that high regard.

Those that I do hold in high regard I'd much rather they stayed well clear of the club as I don't want them to be tainted by association or endure the inevitable from the terraces. And until there's a change in either how the club operates or a change of ownership that's how I want it to remain.

Would have liked to read between the lines and interpreted that there is some kind of tactical shift he has in mind. That’s not really there though is it, it’s just ‘try really hard’

That's exactly all it'll be. We may as well have given the job to Stears

López might disappear back off to Spain never to be seen again but I just think he's so inexperienced that you need to give him more time. It's not like he's been so utterly hopeless that you can't see any positives *cough* Tchatchoua *cough*, he's impressed in the odd sub appearance or with the occasional flash of quality.

Pretty sure I saw a stat where he's the Wolves player with the highest number of through balls played.

I quite like him, it's just he's a kid and isn't going to make the right decision all the time. I'd rather watch him than Munetsi.

I agree, could be a guy to build a team around in a few years - not much use now though.

Thought he might be a bit too Sarabia-like for you ;)

Yeah my criticism of him isnt about him or his qualities, more about spaffing that amount of money on 'one for the future'

If we could have got Harry Wilson for the same or not much more money, then it looks an even worse bit of business. A player who's proven at Premier League level, gets goals and is home grown, or a wallflower with <20 senior starts who happens to be represented by one J Mendes Esq?

Likewise with KWP over Jackson at RB (minus the Mendes representation and the 12 million quid, absolutely ridiculous)

Tchatchoua is right up there with the worst of seen in that position for Wolves...
Definitely.

His debut at Bournemouth was the worst I've ever seen from a Wolves player in my life, that first half!!!

He has improved since then, but he has no positional or defensive awareness at all, and the one attribute he does have, he doesn't have the confidence to use.

If we had a really solid RCB and we could coach him and he would be receptive to it, then there  could be a functional player for us in a 5. But there are too many ifs.

12million quid, when we could have just got KWP on a free and helped our HG issue, moronic.

I'm not sure he's even that quick! It looks to me like one of those weird stats where someone like Ashley Williams (maybe not him, but similar) came top of the speed charts in the PL one year, clearly he wasn't the fastest player in the league. He looks appreciably slower than 32 year old Nelson Semedo to me.

He is better than Hoever or Doherty though. What a mess.

And I'll raise you Neil Emblen's debut :D Or Marlon Harewood's.

No, i thought about Mark Williams, Emblen and Harewood's debuts and they were not as bad as that Bournemouth 1st half, it is not even recency bias,he looked like he had never, ever played football before, he looked stressed and shit.

How about Simon Coleman at Oxford. Looked like a pensioner who had never played football before!

Ok. That's a good shout! :ROFLMAO:

Saw the highlights recently, we talked about that!

So we are going back 30 years, and i wonder how many players have made their debuts in that time?

There is also David Wheater, that was a game I didn't see, but it was really bad apparently. Away at Southampton under Mick was it? It was his only game, we sent him back immediately didn't we?

Yeah, that was his only game. I wasn't there though.

Emi Martinez vs QPR would be a shout but I don't think it was actually his debut, he played a game before that.

It's so odd - it's like he's quick but doesn't actually know how to run. There's been less than 5 times when I've actually seen him inject a burst of speed which you'd think we'd use as some kind of outlet.

Half the time, when we're trying to build something, he's absolutely nowhere near the play - he doesn't seem to make any runs, there's never any attempt to break and create an outlet, he's absolutely bloody hopeless. He's got the footballing brain of Forrest Gump.

I don't even think he's better than Hoever/Doherty. That's not to praise those 2, it's just that I've not seen anything from Tchatchoua whatsoever to suggest that he's a better option. None of those 3 should even be a squad option at this level. Or the level below for that matter.
