Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

Hadn’t realised there are no players in this week. Sounds like even DW’s list have the week off until next. Which may be perfectly normal thinking about it, just comes across heavily in the interview there.

I wonder how soon the relegation expectation-setting starts.

I reckon Edwards will start with the small-time Luton-style chat before the year is out; 'we're giving it everything' the lads are 'competing and fighting' and all that crap

It's all platitudes of course but nothing I wouldn't expect him to say. Not sure he really believes any of it any more than us.
Personally Im looking for him to put a bit of pride back in our performances, a bit of structure in our play and just get the most out of what he's got.
It's likely we'll carry on bombing in which case he'll be gone before long.
I suspect what he really wanted to say was "that dickhead in the big chair has left us in the shit with his decisions and arrogance and I'll do my best with the bunch of low quality misfits I've inherited."

You believe he really thinks that badly of the man who paid £4m for his services? We should all remember he's Shi's guy.

He probably doesn't realise just how dreadful our squad is either

I think he will of watched every game before he took the job. Amazingly he still thinks we can escape relegation. If we do, he will automatically become a Wolves legend.

He'll have no sympathy from me if he does think that. It's not like Lage, Lopetegui and O'Neil who were actively lied to, he should know exactly what he's walking into and not to trust anything promised to him by Shi.

Or he's been lied to about investment in January or for a rebuild in the Championship.

Anyone should be smart enough to see through that given Shi's track record but he either isn't that smart or doesn't care for whatever reason.

Thats very likely

Big salary improvement and an obvious improvement in work life balance are the obvious motivators, as they would be for almost everyone.

I’d be surprised if he’s watched all of our minutes (who would to be fair) and, if he has, it’s evidently had little impact on his decision. Would have liked to read between the lines and interpreted that there is some kind of tactical shift he has in mind. That’s not really there though is it, it’s just ‘try really hard’ which, JSL aside, which won’t be fixed, isn’t the issue. That could be one area that will surprise him unpleasantly, as even the most easily pleased fans have seen enough patternless effort in recent months.

I have no sympathy for any of them (maybe Nuno)I'm sure he does know what he's walking into, he'll be hoping he gets a chance in the Championship. Surely we are in the dying stages of Fosuns involvement? Or is that extreme wishful thinking?

They’ll be money for a championship rebuild but it’ll be subject to the amount of funds taken in from the dross and odd gem that will want to leave next summer. Let’s face it, there won’t be a squad left otherwise.

I think with Lage there was no previous track record apart from Shi binning off Nuno, Shi properly pushed the boat out to get Lopetegui and his massive backroom staff then backed him in January so I can see why he didn't see the following Summer coming and O'Neil was a relative nobody when we hired him. He probably knew he was being lied to but appreciated the chance to work with what was still a good squad at that stage. I can sort of understand why they all fell for it. *

There are no positives to cling onto now. We are cut adrift, there isn't much (any) quality in the squad, there won't be much money to spend in January, any idiot should be able to see through the 'club reset' line Shi has been bleating about and the manager we've just appointed has a track record of completely tanking a club through the leagues and turning his back on his employers at the first opportunity.

* I'm not excusing any of their performances by the way, they all failed in their own way even despite the environment they were working in

Any income from transfers will initially go towards covering whatever losses there will be from getting relegated. Got to be at least £60/70M before we can even think about spending.

Not calling you out as such @Lycan... but it was only a few short months ago that you were saying that you were happy with our transfer business and signings in the summer, when others were calling it and you were being very critical of their stance.

I'm guessing that you've revised that opinion now and recognised it for the disaster it is...

Pereira had the money and blew it on rubbish. He seems to be getting a bit of a free pass. All the BS about creating an identity.
Well he certainly created one, it's not a good one.

I think thats where most fans are, especially on this forum.

I was positive about the profiles of our signings as they were advertised at the time. I also said that we needed 7 players and any less would be a disgrace so I wouldn't say that I was 'happy' about our business once the window closed at all.

It's not just about the summer signings though. It's H.Bueno, Hoever & Mosquera coming in and contributing nothing. Agbadou & Munetsi the previous window. Sá deciding (again) that it's too much effort to try and save shots. It's Bellegarde, Doherty & S.Bueno still being part of the squad despite being consistently not good enough.

Tolu & Krejci look quite good actually, I'm not anywhere near giving up on Fer López as well. Arias worries me and I think the other 2 look shite but it's not the worst return actually. It was the situation we were already in which is the problem.
