Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

"It's where we are as a club... let's get behind him... he'll have my backing... he knows and loves the club... he's one of our own 🤣..."

Just fuck off!!!

I’m genuinely not sure what to expect. Complete apathy in the face of more of the same is the depressing and likely outcome I guess. Can’t rule out real toxicity if the product and pattern on the pitch doesn’t change though. Our previous in-season changes delivered immediate transformation and this one won’t, so the reaction will be interesting as the more gullible are implicitly anticipating some kind of change I think.

The immediate downgrades in managerial ability, with in fairness mixed outcomes, have taken place in the less clear pre-season in recent years.

…and how much was gained by season ticket increases compared to compensation packages and fees for GON, Perriera and Edwards? Sheer incompetence and ticket holders are paying part of the price. That is before the shite transfers from a bloke who was signed and fired within 3 months.

Throw in Lop and his team at 10mill + too

I think it's as good an appointment as we could have expected. That's not me being gaslit, that's me being realistic - at least he's shown a desire to be here, as crazy as that seems!

It also shows how low my expectations have fallen in 12 months. If Edwards was appointed after we sacked GoN I'd have been decidedly underwhelmed. The situation is now far bleaker, we're staring relegation in the face and no coach is going to keep us up. So I'll take someone who actually wants to be here as opposed to some mercenary who is only here for a quick payday before the inevitable sacking when the chairman starts blaming anyone other than himself for our demise.

My main hope is that over the coming months, the frustrations and anger is directed at the chairman and the owner, and not the head coach.

‘We have to be realistic about where we are…’

Head patted.
I get that at the minute they could read the phone book out and get slated (it's fair enough, they've made an absolute mess of the club for no reason) but there's nothing wrong with that. They're not saying it in the sense of "this is the best we could get, we know he's not very good", it's "we're in a hopeless position and we reckon he'll get us heading in the right direction" (remains to be seen of course, as I said the other day we could very easily not win again this calendar year).

As far as I can see, this is what he's got to work with in his first week or so:

Johnstone
Bentley
Hoever
H Bueno
Toti
Mosquera
Pond
Krejci
André
J Gomes
Munetsi
F Lopez
Mané

Everyone else is away, injured or a kid who's never played. So er, best of luck :D

Fingers crossed I don’t have the problematic “well, at least he’s hot?” thought too often. I fear he won’t bring many if any other positives, though.

If he’s been appointed to keep us up he’s going to fail but so would everyone else. That being the case we’ve presumably decided he’s the man to rebuild in the Championship and the evidence from Luton was that whilst he kept the momentum going when he took over from Nathan Jones, he couldn’t turn things round after relegation. I wish him the very best of luck but it’s a poor appointment in my view.

I can love the club AND be highly critical of how it's being run and the direction of travel...I just can't get on board with this appointment... reeks of mediocrity and acceptance.
