Rio 2016

I'll call you a Confederate if it makes you happy x

It's not our fault the catchy named side lost

I just despise the way the word sounds, not least because it rhymes with "wank" (not that anybody Stateside uses that term).

The track at that velodrome looks a hell of a lot smoother than the one I saw being installed in Derby a couple of years ago, was very surprised at the time just how shit it appeared, like they were just randomly nailing down the cheapest timber they found in B&Q.

Are you sure that wasn't the 'undertrack' support and not the final laminated surface?

Love the camera from under the saddle looking back. You get a real idea of how much they are leaned over in the curves.

Final surface according the health and safety adverse Germans who were installing it.

They'd just got stacks and stacks of pretty roughly sawn timbers, dropped it onto the end of the last piece, hammered a few nails in where they saw fit and then maybe sawed a bit off the end if it didn't provide enough stagger to the joint on the next row.

They could have got away with anything on that job though, was told at the time there were only 4 contractors capable of doing the work but then one retired, one didn't respond to enquiries and another refused to adhere to the structural design so the Germans won by default.

Real professionals, not. Did you see anyone ride on it?

No, I think they did a big cycling event there when it was opened and our company had a big open invite for anyone that wanted to go down and join in but I haven't been back there since it was finished.

It's not meant to cause offense, I'll try to remember that your not keen.

Really want to watch the men's 7s but doubt I can stay up for it, gutted

Ah, nah you're alright. I know it isn't meant with malice.

I would have thought the trick was in the sanding process, did you see the finishing treatment?

Good performance from our lads there

Unfortunately not, it was probably around 3/4 of the way up, the track that is, last time I went there so never got to see if they did anything else to it afterwards.

Shame no-one bothered taking a sander to the outside of the place, the cladding is ghastly.
