Relegation Thread 2023/24

While Fosun remain running us in the manner they do it'll be when not if. As it stands we are a bottom 6 team, enough can happen over the season to make it a bottom 3.

The narrative pushed to those happy to recycle it is that we have to have a fallow year this year in terms of spending, then all being well we can start being normal again (if we stay up).

Whether you buy that or not is another question.

Yeah, I put a lot of qualifiers and ifs in my post. Seasons aren't made after 3 games, but at least there's plenty of candidates that are competitively crapper.

As we’ve all said unless the running of club changes it’ll be a very near event us going down. Regardless of Saturday I still think we could easily go this season.
Last season reminded me just how draining it is following a club that sole aim is survival.
Clubs I think we’ll probably come above this season Luton, Sheff Utd, Everton, Burnley.
Then the problem reoccurs next season desperately finding 3 clubs worse than us.
I’m not going to buy the crap that some social media likes come out with that going down would give us a fresh start.
No stay in the league and rebuild from here.

Our situation kind of reminds me of what happened to Southampton when they finished 6th to 8th for four seasons. After that they sold their best players and started to slip down the league. Ultimately, it ended up with the drop after 11 season in the Prem. We've also seen it with Stoke and Albion although neither of them achieved a 6th place finish as the Saints did. Stagnation is a dangerous game and when the ownership adopts a lack of ambition attitude, it usually ends up with the club getting relegated.

Relegation isn't a complete disaster though. Many clubs suffer it. Many clubs recover from it.

History will tell if our current policy is the right one. One thing it does give, is opportunity for other players to shine. There is still opportunity here if they want to take it.

I don't understand people that believe that story at all.

It's Del Boy stuff.

It’s just deflection. Temporary appeasement. And of course the vast majority of the fan base have bought it. It’s bordering on genius, Bond villain level stuff.

Yep. This. Relegation would be a disaster - not a financial disaster, but certainly a disaster in that we’d have to rebuild the rebuild. Lemina, Cunha, Gomes, Sa, Silva, Neto (to name a few) won’t want to stick around and play Championship football.

It is a financial disaster, there’s no dressing it up otherwise.

Admittedly it’s a slightly weakened team but Everton are losing 1-0 to Doncaster and look absolutely dreadful. Can’t see Dyche lasting much longer

Rofl when Lopetegui rolls up at Goodison in his terracotta turtleneck

They can’t afford him. They have bought this Beto on the never never.

Sigurdsson wasnt a complete terrible signing at least in terms of football reasons. I hadnt realised he had been so quietly realised. Bolaise seems a shocker but then I dont actually know who Gbamin is so thats probably a sign thats the worst one.

Anyway putting it on a 2nd separate post but from what I have seen this Burnley keeper isn't anywhere near the level needed currently, seems an insane decision based on the evidence so far.

Didn't want to judge him too harshly on the City game but really poor today again it seems.
