REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Thanks TSB, I will have a go over the weekend. I think politics is one of those subjects that can bring out the worst in people but I will try not to let that put me off.

Langers has a friend! In a sample test of my own drinking each side by side, Holdens Golden Glow came out as a better drink than Bathams.

Feel free to post what you like in this sub section as I'm sure that you are capable of holding your own regardless of your views.

It's pretty close I agree and they are definitely my top two. Aah Beer and Politics, what a lethal combination.

Really? I am glad of my thick skin. On political threads I have been called a flatfoot, a racist by default and ignorant. And was pilloried when my off the cuff remark about brexit touched a few sensitive souls yet I have so far not resorted to anything vicious or hurtful personal in response. I get it that I have a minority view. But I do always try to see things from all sides even if at the end I agree to differ. I put it down to the fact that some posters default style is more confrontational and dismissive.

But you also generally put your case and don't whinge when people disagree with you, engage with any points that are raised rather than avoid them and with the exception of your SDP fixation don't flood the place with nonsense.

My view on this place is that people will get some grief occasionally for what they post, not because of the views they hold. I admit that I will be confrontational and dismissive when a poster can't be arsed to debate and just throw up meaningless soundbites...but I enjoy the proper stuff on here.

No, you just need to be able to debate in a constructive way and not whinge about how unfair it is if people disagree with you. It is a forum, there are diverse opinions and frankly posters who can't deal with people disagreeing with what they post (or how they post) need to look at themselves rather than blame the forum.

There are a few of us who would argue with a light bulb in a dark room but generally can move on once it's done. Then there are those who think they are a victim of an elaborate conspiracy.

I take it as a compliment. I have stood in a corner with only a few other posters and we have slogged it out, being completely outnumbered. I have always been aware that I have to be extra careful and apart from one slip up, which wouldn't have got anyone banned for in any other forum in the country, I still am here and still fight my corner. I never creep, never ask to get other posters banned and have held my hand up and said sorry when I made a mistake.
I feel no need to talk about you to other posters, using sarcasm and being judgemental. I am who I am, and have nothing to be ashamed of. I voted Brexit and am proud of the UK for making in my opinion the right decision. I don't have to get over it, because Brexit won, a few lines on a football forum are exactly that, nothing that should make anyone feel self important.

You keep on proving my point.

Have you been banned? I don't think it's ever been brought up before.

Agreed. We have sparred but it never got personal so that's fine

I've waded through the last 24 hours of this thread. THM on more than one occasion last night you said the Lords shouldn't overrule Parliament, the Lords is Parliament.

To be fair, from the outside it does look as if people get jumped on for having a different opinion, but I think it's more that there are many with a different opinion to that, so all want to challenge that opinion.

I think it would be better if there were more people on here with similar views to Cyber and THM.

Equally, I'm not sure why THM is loathed to answer some pretty straight forward questions.

It shouldn't over rule the elected parliament. To put in to context what I exactly said was that Parliament voted 6-1 to give a referendum. The majority of people voted to leave. Now parliament has voted to accept the releasing of Article 50, I don't think it would be right for an unaccountable house of Lords, to overturn the wishes of 2 democratic votes in parliament and the biggest turn out ever in the referendum.
Didn't want to go over the same point again, but you asked so there you are.

You're still using the phrase Parliament, the Commons has voted in favour, Parliament has 2 Houses. My position is similar to others, I'm not in favour of the HOL in its current format, but you can't choose which Bills it's amends and rejects and which it doesn't.

Fair points and the answer to your question is because I get asked questions by many different people, Sometimes it's difficult to keep up. That is why I said when this new format was begun, I don't want to be the centre of attention. It doesn't help the debate when a person is more important than the subject. Because there are only 2 sometimes 3 posters who ever support Brexit.
I don't want confrontation and sometimes when I get a question from a few people, I know where it's going, so try to keep out of it, as I feel rightly or wrongly it will be me who will be punished.
I have been told twice by a mod that he doesn't want me on the forum. I always know I am on borrowed time, so try to avoid any unnecessary confrontation sometimes, by avoiding a question. I would love to say what I think, however insulting people on the internet is not my style.

Most people ask genuine questions, a few just try to get me in a situation where I react, knowing that it will be me who is banned.

I think I'm too sensitive Need to be a bit more aggressive on here, whereas the other non-footballing threads are somewhat lighthearted ?

the music thread can get a bit feisty, especially if sophie ellis-bexter gets mentioned. it's usually murder on the dance floor at that point.

the problem with these politics threads is not simply different viewpoints, there's differences in, hmm, 'debating' styles (though debating is definitely the wrong word). someone who decides they know what end point they want and then tries to diss any alternative view that points in another direction ad infinitum is not really interested in 'debating' points, only in refuting an alternative view often based on a shallow argument or in other cases, no argument at all. it tends to ruin discussion for anyone wanting a more balanced argument and just becomes background noise.

I was against the house of Lords before Brexit and would have been against the elected house voting twice to remain and remain winning the referendum, only to have Lords say, we are blocking all the democratic votes, we are saying the UK must leave.
I honestly don't change my opinion according to circumstances.

Langers isn't the only one! I've never understood the GG love in. BCB is much better. Batham's is tops.

For the second time on here, I would like to combine Politics and Beer.

So far, apart from posts on The Wolves, I've been on threads on here about Films, Food, Music, Jokes and Beer and it was all good natured. No-one gets wound up or confrontational if someone doesn't like a film or a beer that someone else likes, but as we have seen, the Referendum result has split the country and even families ? I always think an unwritten rule for a Forum should be, to treat it like you were in the pub, talking to one of the family ?

For example, if you voted Leave and you were talking to a family member who voted to Remain, it wouldn't get personal or abusive and we might hold our tongue and be more polite perhaps, even if we strongly disagreed. It would be a civil conversation. We may even concede ground on some points and not argue for the sake of arguing ?

If there were no political threads on here, I imagine everyone could talk all day about our love of Wolves, Beer, Films, Music etc. That seems to change when politics rears it's ugly head ? Does it really matter that much which way we voted in the Referendum ? But I have to say, this thread on Brexit is quite polite compared to some others out there.

My God I sound like someone from ACAS or Marriage Guidance.
