QuestionTime With PPB, Instead of Sir Robin Day .

Have you ever, or would you ever consider joining an online dating site ??

Ha ha i will be ever grateful to my dating site, i had no choice as the village is full of goats and women with beards, and the goats ar actually more attractive, after a cypro or three. It's like joining a gym but much more fun.

But dont you like put an order in of what you want, like blonde/brunette, certain age, smoker/non ,interests, adventurous, fun , no kids etc etc. It all seems so, I dunno, un natural. Even if I was single I couldnt do it. I think Mr Penguin would be up for it tho if he was single !! :icon_lol:

I have met people I've first encountered online tho, just not on dating services.

Who has got and worn a Christmas jumper on a Christmas Day ?

A few years back I was bought a bow tie that sparkled and played Jingle bells. And I was instructed I had to wear it when we went out for Xmas dinner at a restaurant. I did feel rather silly.

I bought Mr Penguin some underwear once that played Jingle Bells when you pressed Rudolphs nose. He never did wear them .

Yep - and thanks to Tinder, it's going very well indeed nearly 3 months down the line!

TBH I only signed up to a couple of them for a laugh (Tinder and PoF) - I didn't actually expect to meet anyone I actually liked!! So despite my piss-taking comment on the other thread, I'm all for them. I met a few nutters but overall, especially nowadays when so many people use social media, it's a very convenient, easy way to meet people.

Ha ha Soooze, it's not like ordering a hand made suit. You state your preferences for for type than looks, and while the questionnaires people answer are a guide to thir personality, their opening profile is usually the basis from which you decide on compatability. I have met some great ladies on there, and six months on i am still with acropolis 1, who actually approached me via the site.
There are so many people , especially here in Greece, who simply cannot get out there into the social scene, that it is , i guess , now the major route for meeting a new date, and you get to know them very well via mail, long before you meet them for real.

Way to go Langers! it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

Totally agree Pav - it's very different to the last time I was single. When I've spoken to some friends about it who wouldn't ever contemplate online dating, they argued that you've no idea what type of nutter you might be talking to. Well how is it any different to meeting someone in a pub or something for the first time? How can you ever know everything about someone you've never met before, regardless of where the first contact was instigated?

And just like meeting someone in a pub, there are some perfectly nice, normal people who use these websites/apps nowadays as it's becoming more and more 'socially acceptable' to do so.

Even the 'friend of a friend' argument of meeting someone when you're out doesn't always work either because (for example) Tinder shows you if you've any mutual Facebook friends. It's a handy discussion point sometimes.

I think a lot of my problem with it is the thought of the whole dating thing. But then that is probably due to my age and the fact that its been nearly 30 sodding years since I had to do any 'dating ' I think I would find it all a bit daunting and a bit scary. Yes, I should imagine its a conveinient way to meet people, and in a lot of cases , like Del, you can end up meeting your future wife and best friend.

To Langers and Pav, I wish you continued success, and hopefully much fun .

When I first met someone from a dating website I admit I was pretty nervous about it, but that would have been the case no matter where I'd met them!! It had been over 10 years since I was last single and things do change.

Growing up, were you given pocket money or did you have to earn it ?

Do you believe honesty is the best policy ?

Real Christmas tree or artifical ?

Last thing you ate today ?

What was your first car/motorbike ?

What game would you choose to play, the dare game, or the truth game?

When you sign your signiture, does it bear any resemblance at all to your actual name ?

I think not, but that's easier to say than do.
Dan Ariely had a great chapter in one of his books regarding why dating sites don't actually work. Must dig that out...

Growing up, were you given pocket money or did you have to earn it ?I wasn't given any money by my parents. That said, I never needed any - they paid for table tennis clubs, cubs & then scouts subs (& don't forget the uniforms etc) and any other activities that I wanted to do.
Grandparents used to give me & my brother small amounts of change/buy us comics.
I can honestly say I never went without.

Do you belive honesty is the best policy ?
No, it absolutely is not always the best policy. In most cases yes, but not in all.

Real Christmas tree or artifical ?
I like the idea of real, but prefer the practicality of artificial.
Last thing you ate today ?
Justr been scoffing biscwits & cakes. I brought some in to work for my birthday thing, but no-one 'cept me appears to be eating them...
What was your first car/motorbike ?
a metro. Bought off my parents.
What game would you choose to play, the dare game, or the truth game?
Dunno what these are, but neither sound appealing!
When you sign your signiture, does it bear any resemblance at all to your actual name ?
Good lord no! But my handwriting is so bad merely writing my name doesn't look any better!

Had to earn it. Chores in the house, then washing dishes of a weekend in an old folks home

I would like to think honesty was always the best policy, but no, in some circumstances it is not.

Artifical.

Greek Pineapple Yoghurt.

Pass.

The Truth Game.

Yes you can tell what it says, although its the only time I do' joined up ' writing !

Growing up, were you given pocket money or did you have to earn it ?

Given it, but I still helped out with stuff on occasions because I'm nice like that.

Do you believe honesty is the best policy ?

In the vast majority of cases, absolutely.

Real Christmas tree or artifical ?

Probably artificial but I don't see the point of spending large sums of money on the things TBH

Last thing you ate today ?

A bag of Skittles!

What was your first car/motorbike ?

Yeah, very funny.

What game would you choose to play, the dare game, or the truth game?

I'm 34 years old, not 17.

When you sign your signiture, does it bear any resemblance at all to your actual name ?

Yes, I think so. It's not too elaborate.

Growing up, were you given pocket money or did you have to earn it ? We had to earn it

Do you believe honesty is the best policy ? Most definitely.

Real Christmas tree or artifical ? I would not have one if I had my way.

Last thing you ate today ? Ham Sandwich at lunchtime.

What was your first car/motorbike ? Morris Oxford

What game would you choose to play, the dare game, or the truth game? Neither

When you sign your signiture, does it bear any resemblance at all to your actual name ? Not in the slightest.
