Pre-season friendly thread

Hoever shocking
Ran slow and Ball watching
Killman done well
All our troubles came wide
MGW has really impressed

as soon as Adama is subbed off we dont create much

MGW has been a bright spark under Lage though

An absolute Mancienne of a second half from Hoever, really poor.

Hanging on a bit here. Cutrone is at least trying hard.

We looked out on our feet for the last 20 minutes, unsurprisingly. Most of our problems seemed to come from individual lapses in defence or giving the ball away cheaply in midfield. We played a back 3 who are never likely to start a game together in the PL though. Hoever was appalling, Neves was excellent and Campbell did ok when he came on I thought. Cutrone also looked ok but MGW probably is the player who has come out of these pre season games with the most gained. He has been very good every time I’ve seen him.

First half was pretty good - some good interplay from the front three, Yerson (I can boogie) looking good again before he got injured, Neves pushing on and really influencing the game in attacking areas as well as his normal stuff, Adama rampant, RAN causing plenty of problems down the left. Obviously the injuries disrupted us and the game as a whole.

Not much of any note in a positive sense from us after we went 2-0 up other than Cutrone's work rate which is a contrast to what we saw last time he was here and nice to see. Defensively we go through periods of looking extremely ropey, no matter who's on the pitch. Cov definitely should have equalised, I can see us conceding a hell of a lot more than we've been accustomed to, even playing with three at the back - which does look better for us with the current personnel - we look stupidly open at times.

They're only friendlies I know, but I'm not seeing a massive sea change here. It's a couple of tweaks and what we get from say, Neves playing further forward (and he does look good doing that) is outweighed by us looking shambolic at the other end. Some very odd changes today too, we didn't have to play people out of position but we did (all of RAN, Campbell and Cutrone weren't where they were supposed to be for part of their time on the pitch).

Unconvinced.

I’m really looking forward to Saturday to see some of this for myself.

Did Yerson get injured? Did anyone else get injured?
Yerson and Bueno both went off injured. Both hamstring by the look of it.

Marques took a knock but came through it.

So if boly and yerson is out, will we go saiss, cody and kilman in a 3 in the PL premiere if nobody else is signed? with RAN and Semedo as wingbacks

In his interview Bruno said the first 3 weeks were for him to learn about that players. It seems he’s decided on 3-4-3, hence him keeping the shape when we had injuries just moving players around.

I thought we looked alright again, next Saturday will be interesting to see the intensity we play at compared to recent games where the load has obviously affected us physically

Hmmmmmm.

It's only a friendly (and the 2nd in 24 hours) so I won't be too judgemental but... That was hard work at times.

I'd expect an intense week of training to work out the kinks, then the game vs Celta Vigo being at the intensity and style that Bruno wants them to play.

All the previous games have been full speed training games and nothing more.

I think you're right. The Celta Vigo game is probably the first match under Lage that we should actually pay attention to, wrt tactics, performance and the result.
