Pre-Season 2016/17 Season

Given that this pre season has mainly featured the youngsters & with signings promised you have to wonder how many of last seasons 'first team' are going to be in the team from now on.

The complaint I've had for the last 12 months is that, post-Sako, Jackett was starting to build the team around players like Henry or Edwards or Coady, who at best should be squad backup for any club wanting to attain promotion. I'd be perfectly happy with most of a new first-XI being bought in and our current crop relegated to the rotation roles that are more their level.

Well I hope Jack Price is playing

It's strange that Kenny has apparently made little effort to be involved, not even speaking to his mate Tim2

To be fair it's a team composition that Joe Gallen would have been more familiar with.

Him and Leak seem to get rave reviews on the OS.

Can definitely see why with Johnson. I dismissed him a bit first half but when I realised how young he was gave him a bit more of a chance and in the second half was very impressed.

Hayden next to him is more in the Batth mould of CBs. Johnson on the other hand reminded me of John Stones with his composure on the ball, he brought it out from the back a couple of times in the second half and found some good passes.

He was dominated a bit physically at times but he was up against Alex Revell in the first half who is an experienced operator so it was a good test for him.

Few other players that looked good:

Odoffin - very athletic getting up and down the line, similar to Iorfa. Interested to see how he develops

Herc - Played CM alongside Coady and was impressive, made a few good solid tackles. Looked creative when he got the chance and made a good few late runs into the box.

Ronan - this lad is going to be in the 1st team this year. He's quick, skillful and has great composure. Made a couple of bad decisions with regards to when to pass etc. but he was a really bright spark. Had the RB on toast all night long.

Ennis - As discussed, for a 17 year old lad, he's the real deal. Took his goal very well (although it was at the other end, so looking forward to seeing the replay) but it was his all around play which convinced me he is ready. He is not just a good finisher but he comes deep and plays with his back to goal and the CB's really struggle to get the ball from him. He is also brilliant going the other way and is rapid quick.

As had been said on the OS, disappointing result but good performance. They played the L2 Champions and didn't look out of place whatsoever.

Cheers for that Stan. As I've said elsewhere, be great to see some of these lads progressing into the first team together with these signings we're all so potentially excited about.

That really is cracking work from Ennis for the goal.

Best ball I've seen Coady play too!

I'd start Ennis on Saturday, see what he does with the first 11. If he does well I'd start him at Rotherham if we don't bring another forward in before then.

Yeah, I'm down with that.

Totally agree with this...closest thing we've got to Dicko in the current squad and his confidence must be sky high.

I really hope the likes of Ronan and Ennis don't get stifled by the new players that will be coming in. Let's hope they get a chance to play alongside them.

I'm pretty comfortable with Bright and Ennis as Dicko backups but I imagine KJ is less so.

Ennis starts, Mason not even on bench. Looks like our one senior forward has got injured.
Ikeme, Iorfa, Hause, Batth, Doherty, Saville, Evans, Price, Wallace, Henry, Ennis

Mason crocked
Bright ill

Unusual pre-season game this one...as the players have something to play for other than fitness. A new man to impress.

Both teams have no established strikers. Swansea have sold Paloschi and Gomis, haven't got replacements in yet. Ayew isn't really a striker.
