O'Neil aka GONe

He was dealt a better hand than most managers who come into the Prem tbh. Most come in during a crisis more akin to the wreck he has left us in than what he took over from. Lopetegui left because he correctly thought Fosun were not giving sufficient funds for us to compete, it wasn't about us going down. O'Neil has better players than where we are and should be keeping us up with what we have available. Every week it's someone else's fault and has been ever since he took over.

I know my knowledge of tactics is pretty simplistic but surely if you're conceding goals like we are, you have to have a more pragmatic approach, if you think the players can't take on your clever tactics, then give them more simple instructions they have a chance of following and follow a more disciplined approach.

I don't think his comments are bizarre, they show lack of self awareness and it's terrible man management. No wonder Cunha, Lemina and RAN are losing their shit if they're being told they're not of a sufficient level.

Giving people a simple instruction that’s effective IS the difficult art of management. Way easier to talk complete cobblers, confuse everyone and then blame them afterwards.

Having just got in after a family dinner in the depths of Shropshire and no phone signal I was hoping to come home and read he’d gone.
I don’t think it’s happening again simply because they’ve already made their minds up just they’ve not got a clue who to bring in.
This is what happens Jeff when you reach the end of the line and no one wants to work or know you due to how you run things.
We’re stuck footballing purgatory, GON wants the sack, The board want him sacked as do the fans but there’s no one to replace him so we’re locked between 2 situations.
I don’t think we’re breaking 20 points this season which is humiliating.
I wrote this in my summary of the 2011/12 season:

"Terry Connor had failed to win any of his thirteen games in charge and gained just four points from a potential 39; whilst Wolves final points tally of 25, was the 2nd the lowest ever recorded in any league campaign during the club's existence. Their poorest was 23 points way back in 1905/06 when Wolves were relegated from Division 1. But this season was worse as in 1905/06 it was 2 points for a win and Wolves won 8 games out of 38 compared to 5 (3 points for a win) out of 38 in 2011/12."

At this rate we're heading for 21-22 points for the season - our worst ever league campaign.

If GON thought our defence was as paper thin as it's been shown to be then he was in the best position to demand funds to improve it - who else is responsible on the training side?

The 'dealt a bad hand' is just total bullshit. He's either overestimated the squad capability or his own ability to coach its deficiency. Didn't Hobbs say they were satisfied they didn't feel they needed another CH for instance. That could only be the case with GON not demanding it.

No decent manager wanting to come is of course down to Fosun and Hobbs. All out of their depth - players losing value by the day.

In the early days when he regularly criticised Lopetegui without actually naming he spoke of jobs in the PL only being available when things were wrong and needed rectifying as if Lop had been sacked due to poor performance which of course was not the case.

I also get sick of the narrative that Lop said we would get relegated - he said nothing of the sort, he wanted further investment to push us towards Europe not to avoid relegation. This is why a vacancy existed for O'Neil to full.

Sick of this shit

This, this and this. Given he’d been handed an unbelievable opportunity and had a strange goodwill tailwind from the crowd, he had no need to callback to Lopetegui at all. That he did so betrayed an unappealing ego that were now seeing the results of in the compete and utter capitulation of team discipline. He’s an atrocious appointment, worse even than Lage.

Are you pissed or just petty point scoring? You don't seem to be able to comprehend the written word.
Your hatred for O'Neil is understandable but misplaced. Yeah he was a cheap option and a gamble but until the last couple of weeks he's conducted himself well as far as I'm concerned, far better than Lage or Lopetegui did.
He was dealt a shit hand with a so called squad, already paper thin, sold Kilman, Sold Neto bought in a load of shit in positions that weren't required, and a shit goalkeeper, lost Mosquera for a full season, had VAR decisions go against us...I could go on.
For weeks we've been hearing 'sack O'Neil' but as I've asked before, to be replaced by whom?
No one's come up with a viable answer to that besides 'pie in the sky' suggestions who wouldn't be interested in the job except maybe some for earning a fast buck.
You like the way the slopey shouldered one has conducted himself?

It's never been his fault. NEVER! according to him anyway. He gleefully takes all praise when things are going well (been some time now) but won't accept any blame.

He's a wanker. A fucking wanker.

Things are going to get worst until certain things change, GON sacked, Hobbs Sacked, shi sacked, Fosun selling up, new owners having an idea of what to do and playing squad overhaul. All those need to happen otherwise this slide of decline will bottom out around 18th in the championship and it’s just the club size that keeps us at that level.
Self sustainability only works if you’ve got very competent people in high places we have none.
Would love to see that interview with Shi and Hobbs earlier in the season when they were so cocksure about everything.
The mentality from August to November and the “tough fixtures” talk really has set the tone. It’s from everyone though media, fans, the club etc it’s given an excuse for failure and that losing isn’t that bad. People are just stupid and don’t realise human mentality can’t switch instantly from being a plucky loser to an expected winner.

Started work at 0345 this morning & am still hoping that I get a text or read something from an "insider" that GON is Gone.

One can only live in hope of another miracle revival and us not being bottom at Christmas again

Edit: The whole situation is starting to turn into 2011 again. The club is rotten top to bottom at the moment. We are just lacking the 2024 equivilent of Holywood O'Hara or Roger Johnson turning up pissed

The self sustainability is something they fired in though because of a change of way they operate and that's the issue. You aren't self sustainable when you are selling players to cover previous outlays and leaving your squad depth at a level data not only shows is insufficient, but we as fans already knew as twice in recent times it's left us with issues.

Signing Johnstone and trying to move Sa on, selling Kilman to try and use Mosquera, but not looking at the data on Dawson isn't sustainability.

Same with selling Neto and then buying project players despite being told any signings to replace him would be for the first team.
