Nah, his knowledge and experience alone would be invaluable in the Championship. Don’t have to rely so much on pace at that level.

Gary O'Neil is nowhere near a Premier League Manager/Head Coach. In fact, I have always been of the opinion he is not even a Manager/Head Coach at all. He just doesn't have the character, the demeanour, the gravitas for me. To me he is a no.2/interim/caretaker and nothing more. We keep hearing what a nice guy he is, how popular he is with the players, a mate. However, that's not his job, its not a popularity contest. Looking at some of the best managers over time they haven't come across as particularly pleasant characters, certainly not the players mate but respected - Clough, Mourinho, Klopp, Pep for instance. I'm not saying you have to be an utter wanker but you don't need to be their drinking buddy either

Have you got any links please to players talking about GON being their mate and drinking buddy. I'm interested in seeing which players it is that have said this.
 
Matt Doherty comments post West Ham tend to point to things being very nice and relaxed at Compton.
Problem with that is you turn the training ground into a haven and create a certain amount of dread towards match day.
You often hear players or ex players of successful clubs say they hated training or things weren’t very cosy and it was hard work ie preparing them for match day.
All seems like they’re in a comfort zone at Compton and don’t want it to change.

I've just listened back to this interview and I didn't see at any point where he's pointing to things being relaxed at Compton.

What he does say (which is good to hear) is that there are no cliques within the squad and that there is 'no separation'

Yep the players get on which fine but there should be a degree of separation from coaching staff. Not in a bad way though, are they giving each other some uncomfortable truths? If you’re in a team that’s failing I’d like to think there’s a bit of edge there.
Players not getting on but being professional about it is fine to.
Look whilst the side is losing everything goes under the microscope, there’s a genuine tactical problem but there’s also a genuine problem with character and resilience. No matter what they say things clearly aren’t working in training.

Fair point. I think that's a very reasonable assessment. Without having watched it again I don't think Dohert'ys interview really differs too much from that either.

With reference to a different post, I still can't locate any actual evidence of players giving any hint at all of GON being a 'mate' and a 'drinking buddy'

Decent majority on here now think Wolves win tomorrow (prediction thread). Comfort for me, as someone who can’t understand at all how we might do that, is my actual position in the prediction league…
