Olympiacos FC (A) 12/03/20 - Following Nuno, Drinking The Ouzo

Yes let’s get rid of Nuno because people on the match day thread aren’t entertained.

Espanyol rubbish?

I thought we played well in the first leg and then at half pace for the second which was a decent 5 goal game.

You good folk had better hope for a new manager then...

This is the way we play.

Not at all. Spurs at home was very entertaining. We played front foot football, pressed high, looked to create.

We lost the game, fine. But it was entertaining. And we didn’t lose the game because we played like Norwich. We lost the game from individual mistakes and profligacy. The same reasons as when we play negatively.

Strange post.

I was referring to the away game. But while we’re their, first half against Espanyol wasn’t great (the Wolves way, even though it was the reserves of the team bottom of La Liga).

As usual I'm a bit in the middle ground on this topic, I agree with some that we were poor tonight and also the last 2 games were not very entertaining, however think most of us would have been happy with 1-1 before the start.
For most of the last 3 seasons I've been mostly entertained with the style of play and absolutely delighted with where we are.

Would not say Leicester was rubbish at all either. They had a deflected shot from range and pretty much nothing else, we had a fair few good chances and a goal that really should have been allowed.

Spurs wasn't "rubbish" at any stage.

But then Leicester have only been in the top three all season and Spurs made the Champions League final last season, we should be battering these.

It's ludicrous. The mindset people have makes no sense at all.

No spurs away wasn’t really that bad, I’ve typed that badly. You enjoyed Leicester, that’s fine. Your bar is lower than mine, but it doesn’t make you right and me wrong.

Leicester have been in the top 3 all season, but there’s not really any massive difference for me between our first XI. Using Spurs as champions league finalists last season is completely irrelevant. They’ve been below us or around us all season, now a different manager and have an injury crisis. I’m not expecting us to be thrashing these teams. I was purely listing games which haven’t been very entertaining. As I said, Spurs at home best game in years and we lost ...

You might be happy playing abysmally with 10% possession no shots and a 1-1 draw away in Europe. Good result on paper, can still call it a rubbish game. (I know this didn’t happen)

I think once you start valuing entertainment (whatever that's perceived to be) over results then you go down the road of Tony Mowbray.

There is of course a line and I would never want us grinding to 40 points under Allardyce or Pulis. Some gratitude for Nuno wouldn't go amiss though and it's been sorely lacking lately (not from you personally). This is the way we will always play under him, no matter how much we improve the squad.

I doubt anyone moans too much if Donck scores at the end vs Brighton and/or we get a late goal tonight off a set piece or whatever. Not going to pretend we've played scintillating stuff this week because we haven't at all, we have been passive at times, we could have done more and there have been periods where our use of the ball has been loose. It's quite a shallow thing.

I just think people could hold off a bit on what they say because it's downright disrespectful at times. Like I say, I have a choice, I can fuck off and leave everyone to it, I don't have to read it or contribute.

Same as "worst half of the season" when there are at least four (probably more) that were demonstrably, objectively worse. Bear in mind we weren't even losing and hadn't even looked in any danger at any stage.

It goes beyond "heat of the moment" stuff tbh because there's a very definite pattern that happens constantly. Spills over as well to when people have supposedly calmed down.

Now of course I have a choice, I don't have to read it. I think it's bloody dreadful behaviour though given what we have. If I were reading that as an outsider then I'd think that Wolves fans were a seriously entitled whiny bunch. As it is, I'm not an outsider and I just know it's a fact.

Couple that with the treatment Vinagre got inside the stadium last Saturday and I'm not too fond of our lot right now.

Good grief.

Considering I’ve basically never posted on a comms thread on here (I’m usually at the game), I’m not sure any accusation of “definite patterns” can be levelled at me.

I’m definitely much, much more on the happy clapper side of the spectrum. But Christ, if I see a shit game and a wasted opportunity, and a half that I think was up there with the worst of the season (thankfully, amongst a lot of good halves), I’ll call it out!

Also, hyperbole on a fans forum is completely par for the course. If it winds you up that much, you’re probably best off avoiding commentary threads, instead of trying to enforce some bizarre form of serenity.

Espanyol came to contain... They did until we got the second then we were away. Other teams are allowed to come and try to stop us playing, you know

Wasn't just talking about you (though that was your comment)

I’m just frustrated. I hate the idea that we could’ve been out of site had we played 25% better. There’s a not insignificant chance we could get bombed out this round and look back and think “what might have been”.

That said, I’m also the sort of person who was gutted at drawing in Braga, and disproportionately frustrated not to beat Espanyol in Barcelona. The great thing about this Wolves side is that (touch wood!), it tends to work out OK.

Could happen any time, couldn't it. As Punts has said, we played excellently at home to Spurs. Lost. See also both Liverpool games this season.

There's no team that goes through these tournaments and sails through every single game. You grind it out because it takes forever and most importantly, you don't leave yourself wide open early doors in the first leg of a knockout tie and suddenly find yourselves 2-0 down. We were always going to sit in, whatever the perceived strength of the opposition.

I think given that three key players in Raul, Adama and Moutinho didn't play well (and we generally need at least 2 of them to do so) then a draw with an away goal is absolutely fine.

There have only been 6 ties played in this round and half of them are essentially already over. You have to stay in the game, I long for the day when we can rock up and duff teams like Olympiacos up 6-0 but it's a long way off. We're a good team but we're still a work in progress and you cannot overstate the importance of experience in these competitions. Look how long it took United to get it right in the 90s when they were walking away with the Premier League most years.

I’m struggling with your point

I must be struggling with your point too as I had read that we should be an all conquering, all out attack, entertainment machine that hammers the likes of Espanyol, Southampton, Leicester, Spurs etc...

My bad if I got the wrong end of the stick and it wouldn't be the first time! :icon_lol:

Nope, you’ve lost me. I’m out.

do we really need to do this after every fucking game now?

christ sake

And we must be regressing quite rapidly because every single game we seem to have played "the worst half of football this season". I'm glad we've got so many points or we'd be getting relegated!
